Team Velocity Racing beat Team Vesrah Suzuki to win a WERA National Endurance Series 6-Hour at Grattan Raceway Park Saturday. On the track, Velocity was 40 seconds ahead at the end of six hours but got across the line just before the checkered flag flew, allowing the team to finish the lap for an official margin of victory of one lap+. Velocity took the overall win and also finished first in the Heavyweight Superstock class on a Yamaha YZF-R1. Vesrah finished second overall and first in the Heavyweight Superbike class on a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R1000. Vesrah had a troubled race aboard a machine that had been put together as a show bike but taken to Grattan in case the trouble with the team’s 2005 GSX-R1000 racebikes encountered at Willow Springs and Las Vegas resurfaced at Grattan. It did, and the show bike was pressed into service. During the race the Vesrah bike suffered from a slipping clutch, a broken exhaust bracket and a holed radiator. Rain fell with 40 minutes left in the race but then stopped, with the track dry with 10 minutes to go. Those conditions favored Velocity’s combination of a DOT-labeled front and a rain rear, versus Vesrah’s front-and-rear rain tires. Other class winners included Red Star in Middleweight Superbike, Dalke Motor Sports in Middleweight Superstock and Notorious P.I.G. in Lightweight Superbike. Overall Results 1. Team Velocity Racing, Yamaha YZF-R1, Heavyweight Superstock, 233 laps 2. Vesrah Suzuki, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Heavyweight Superbike, 232 laps 3.
