BRASELTON, Ga. Team Velocity Racing has announced that they are partnering with Blown Away Racing to field 16-year-old Joshua Day in the AMA Supersport Series, beginning with this weekend’s Suzuki Superbike Showdown at Road Atlanta.

Day recently joined Team Velocity Racing in the WERA National Endurance Series, riding the team’s Yamaha YZF-R6 in the Mediumweight Superstock class. Day helped lead the team to the class victory during the most recent endurance race at Summit Point Raceway.

“We’re happy to welcome Joshua to the team,” said Team Velocity Racing owner Chuck Ivey. “He displays a great deal of maturity and talent, and we’re excited for the opportunity to help Joshua develop as a rider.”

This weekend will mark Day’s third AMA Supersport appearance this season on his Yamaha YZF-R6. He first joined the pro racing scene at Daytona in March, then returned to the series at Road America.

This season has marked a number of firsts for Day. In addition to making his AMA Pro Racing debut, it is also the Orlando, Florida resident’s first season on a 600cc motorcycle. Day got his start racing a Honda RS125 in the Florida region of CCS during the 2004 season at the age of fourteen. Last year, Day again rode his 125 as well as a Yamaha TZ250 in USGPRU competition, winning the 250GP championship in the East Coast Region.

“Making the transition from the 125s and 250s to a 600 wasn’t as bad as I expected,” said Day. “The weight feels a lot different after the 125, and of course the difference in the power range took some getting used to. Racing endurance with Team Velocity has allowed me to get more track time and learn the 600 better.”

Day has indeed adapted quickly to the new bike, finishing third in the 600 Superbike race during the WERA Nationals at Summit Point. Joining the pro ranks, says Day, is a much bigger challenge. “You’ve got to run better than you do any other weekend. Of course, you do your best every time you race, but you’ve got to push yourself even further in AMA competition.” The Pro Honda Oils Supersport race will be held on Sunday, September 3 at 1:30 p.m. EDT. The race is scheduled for a length of 15 laps.
