TEAM WD-40 REVEAL EXCITING THREE-STRONG RIDER LINE UP FOR MCE INSURANCE BRITISH SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP

Team WD-40 are pleased to announce they are the latest contenders progress into the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship. This previous Superstock and Motostar winning team are set to compete in the Superstock 1000 with #40 Ben Young, Superstock 600 with #40 Tarran Mackenzie and make their highly anticipated debut in the premier Superbikes class with the exciting new addition, #7 Barry Burrell.

The MCE British Superbike Championship is known to be the place for Motorcycle sport, worldwide. The challenge this year for all teams are the rule changes, including the implementation of the 17” wheel rule. This causes all teams involved to rethink how they approach the races for 2014, which gives the team a more level playing field to kick off the season at the premier levels.

Staying involved in Superstock 1000 has always been important to keep the momentum with the success seen last year and Superstock 600 allows the team to continue with the ethos of developing young riders of the future.

Burrell’s debut with Team WD-40 is really exciting, as he is returning to the MCE BSB grid with an already estabished history of scoring top ten finishes and his experience in the IDM (German) series, as he prepares for only his second full MCE BSB campaign.

Burrell, taking on #7 for Team WD-40, said: “I am really excited about the chance to work with Team WD40, this is a great team, with some big aspirations . This is only my second full season in BSB and I can’t wait to get on the grid. The crew have been working hard behind the scenes ready for this year, so I know that together we can push towards achieving our goals as we have built a strong foundation to begin the season.”

Joining Burrell in the Team is Canadian Ben Young, riding the #40 ZX10 in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championships. After scoring top ten finishes in last season’s AMA Daytona SportBike Championship, including 8th at The Daytona 200, Ben has the added challenge of learning the UK circuits and how the British competition operate, but his experience in AMA should help him with the task ahead.

Young said: “It is great to get the chance to race in the UK for Team WD-40, I am confident that with the team’s experience and past successes, it puts us in a really good position to continue and build on last year. I am looking forward to my first ride on the bike tomorrow!”

Tarran Mackenzie riding the #40 ZX6 becomes the 3rd member of the team. The Team have some experience of this promising young rider from last year, where he battled for the top spot heroically. His skill, professionalism and cheeky smile made him the number one choice to join the team in the National Superstock 600.

Mackenzie said: “It was a hard decision to make between riding in Moto3 or moving up to the 600cc, but I am really looking forward to joining Team WD-40 and the new challenges in taking the next step this year. I want to be at the front and will be aiming for the podium!”

Team owner Brent Gladwin concluded: “We are a relatively young team in the British Championship paddock but with the success of 2013 behind us we have big ambitions for the future. We have taken our time to announce our completed line up and we are pleased that we can now confirm our 2014 team. With our 3 riders, we have a perfect combination of experience, determination and tenacity. Team WD-40 has a strong package with the Kawasaki’s and our loyal partners, so I am delighted with how we are kicking off for 2014 and we are looking forward to another great season of racing.”
