With a successful kick-off to the 2012 season of the Texas Tornado Boot Camp behind him, two-time World Superbike Champion Colin Edwards is getting ready for his second racer-oriented school which he’ll conduct as soon as he gets in some riding of his own. “Seeing the riders skill level and determination improve so much after our first week-long camp was a great feeling for the family of instructors and staff here at the Texas Tornado Boot Camp,” Edwards said as he prepared to fly to Sepang, Malaysia for the first MotoGP test of the year. “Just knowing what they are absorbing and understanding about two-wheeled control gives us great pleasure and only makes us more focused on doing better again at the next one starting on February 6.” The week-long Jan. 9-15 racer camp attracted riders from Belgium, Holland, France, the United Kingdom and the U.S., all of who got the first taste of the racer-specific advanced Boot Camp curriculum. Not only did the riders represent a number of countries, but also a variety of championships, with the FIM World Endurance, European Superstock 600, and Grand Prix Moto3 all represented. Because of the advanced skill level of the campers, Edwards and his team tailored the program to ensure that what the campers learned in the various drills, individual races and team challenges would translate to the asphalt. The team challenges consisted of five-rider teams which competed in endurance races, and various other challenges that Colin and crew thought up for their international visitors. The races included a short track under the lights, TT races and “Indy Mile” style dirt track on the eighth-mile oval, all leading to the “Mega Pole” single rider timed event to cap off the four-day race series. The overall winner of the “Texas Tornado Boot Camp World Championship” four-day race series event was eight-time Belgian Superbike champion, and multi-time World Endurance podium finisher, Gregory Fastre of Belgium. Fastre finished third in the Thursday Night Short Track, then went on a winning streak, taking the Friday Night TT, the Saturday Indy Mile, and the Sunday TTBC Super Pole. With a successful first racer camp behind them, Edwards and his instructors will host a second camp for professional racers the first full week in February, Feb. 6-12, after Edwards returns from the first MotoGP test of 2012. Colin and his Forward Racing Suter-BMW squad is one of the few claiming rules team (CRT) which will take to the track for a three-day test, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, alongside most of his fellow MotoGP riders. The Forward Racing Suter-BMW has been extensively developed since Colin first rode it in Spain last year and the Texan can’t wait to mix it up with the best riders in the world. The complete slate of 2012 camps was designed with his championship duties in mind, with camps on off weekends between races and before and after the two U.S. rounds of the MotoGP World Championship. And, for the first time ever, a women only camp will be offered. 2012 Camp Schedule: February 6- 12: One Week Racer Camp March 29 April 1: Four Day Camp April 19 – 22: Four Day Camp May 10- 13: Four Day Camp-Women Only June 21 – 24: Four Day Camp August 2 – 5: After Laguna Seca Four Day Camp August 9- 12: Pre-Indy GP Four Day Camp September 20-23: Four Day Camp October 4-7: Four Day Camp The Texas Tornado Boot Camp is pleased to announce their all new and interactive website.
