The FIM CEV Repsol is back in action at the MotorLand Aragón circuit, with Marcos Ramírez (SPA-KTM), Steven Odendaal (RSA-Kalex) and Maximilian Scheib (CHI-BMW) currently leading in the Moto3™, Moto2™ and Superbike classes respectively.
After the second round of the Moto3™ Junior World Championship at the circuit of Le Mans (France) during the MotoGP™ World Championship event, the FIM CEV Repsol returns to its usual format. At MotorLand there will be two races in both the Moto2™ and Superbike classes, and one race in Moto3™.
Marcos Ramírez currently leads the Moto3™ Junior World Championship, as he has done since winning the first race of the season in Valencia, although Lorenzo Dalla Porta (ITA-Husqvarna) is now only six points adrift. The Italian – poleman in both Valencia and Le Mans – took his first win of the season in France while the Leopard Junior Stratos team rider failed to make the podium for the first time this year. Kaito Toba (JPN-Honda) holds third place, just one point behind Lorenzo Dalla Porta, so the outcome of Sunday’s Moto3™ race in Alcañiz could bring big changes in the overall standings. Jaume Masia (SPA-Honda) returns at MotorLand after missing the second race in Valencia and the Le Mans race with a sprained left wrist from a fall on the last lap of the opening round. In the Moto3™ Production category, Aleix Viu (SPA-Honda) still leads, nine points ahead of Héctor Garzo (SPA-Honda).
In the Moto2™ European Championship, Steven Odendaal’s (RSA-Kalex) second position in the first race and victory in the second of Valencia put him at the top of the intermediate class. In fact, the top four classified were the stars at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, alternating places on the podium. The first race was won by Eric Granado (BRA-Kalex), followed by Odendaal and Alan Techer (FRA-NTS NH 6), with Federico Fuligni (ITA-Kalex) in fourth. In the second Granado went down and the South African AGR Team rider won ahead of Techer and Fuligni. The two races at MotorLand promise plenty of excitement with the addition of riders such as Remy Gardner (AUS-Kalex Honda), Xavier Pinsach (SPA-Tech3) and Tetsuta Nagashima (JPN-Kalex). In Superstock 600, Jacopo Cretaro (ITA-Yamaha) is the man to beat after finishing first in the category in both races in Valencia, holding off Ivo Miguel Paixao (POR-Kawasaki) and Alexei Ivanov (USR-Yamaha).
Reigning Superbike European Championship champion Carmelo Morales (SPA-Yamaha) will be looking to come back from the problem he suffered in Valencia when his rear tire lost pressure forcing him to drop out. Chilean Maximilian Scheib (CHI-BMW) is the category leader followed by Alejandro Medina (SPA-Yamaha) and Santiago Barragán (SPA-BMW), who were the podium riders in the first race of the season. Niko Makinen (FIN-Yamaha) leads the Superbike Privateers class after winning the first race ahead of Óscar Climent (SPA-Yamaha) and Guillermo Llano (SPA-Yamaha).
Next Sunday’s race schedule is as follows:
Superbike 1 (15 laps): 11h
Moto2™ 1 (15 laps): 12h
Moto3™ (15 laps): 13h
Superbike 2 (15 laps): 14h
Moto2™ 2 (15 laps): 15h

More, from a press release issued by Gabriel Martinez-Abrego’s publicist:
Gabriel Martínez-Abrego Ready for Aragón Round of the Moto3 Junior World Championship
Alcañiz, Spain. – Texas road racer Gabriel Martínez-Abrego is set and ready to participate this weekend in the third round of the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship in Motorland Aragòn Circuit.
‘Gabo’, as he is well known by his family and friends, is the only rider of the Americas participating in what is considered the prelude to the Moto3 World Championship. He is in a development stage as the Junior rider of the Worldwide Race World Championship structure where Moto3 riders Karel Hanika & Darryn Binder form the roster in the MotoGP series.
Gabriel’s participation at the Championship second round in Le Mans earlier this month within MotoGP activities was a big challenge. He was still recovering from surgeries in his right collarbone and left thumb caused in a practice crash fifteen days before race weekend.
“Le Mans was a race that I will never forget. It was a big test for me, sessions were filled with intensity and emotions. Neither the team nor me were sure what to expect, goals were set only to qualify and finish the race, I was able to do better by qualifying in P27 and finishing the race in P24 out of 33 rides.” commented the Mexican born rider.
“Yes, I was in pain, but is not everyday that you have Rossi, Pedrosa, Hernandez and all this “big” guys watching your race from pit wall. I was not ready to waste that opportunity, not a chance, it was a big motivation being able to race in a MotoGP weekend so I had to mentally place my injuries aside,” concluded Gabriel.
Gabriel’s program is aimed to bring him to a Moto3 competitive level and to confirm his participation in the World Championship in the near future. His technical staff has vast experience in the development of young riders and the program is being supervised by 125GP World Champion Roberto Locatelli.
“We are in a good path with Gabo’s program and satisfied with his performance at this competitive level. Le Mans was a very emotional race, where he brought out his heart and courage to the track despite his injuries. There is still a long road ahead but season is at the beginning stage, I am confident that with more experience, dedication and team work results will come,” mentioned Roberto Locatelli, Gabriel’s mentor and program supervisor.
After this race weekend in Aragón, the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship will continue the series in Catalunya, Albacete and Algarave Portugal during the summer time. Season will wrap up with double rounds at Jerez Circuit in September and Valencia Ricardo Tormo in November.
Gabriel’s race program is possible due the support of México’s corporation Grupo Motomex and to Formex Swiss Watches, Motul Moto México, Kaspersky Lab, Rhodius Abbrasives USA & Bevel-Tools USA. His personal protection is provided by Alpinestars race suits & AGV helmets.
