Michael Dunlop dominates the Southern 100 on his BMW S 1000 RR – BMW racer Michal Prášek is crowned champion in the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship.
Four races and four stunning wins for Michael Dunlop at the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man – Michal Prášek celebrates an early title win in the Superstock class of the AARR – Wins and podiums on three continents result in major changes at the top of the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy with Prášek, Jordan Szoke and Dunlop being the new top-three.
Munich (DE), 20th July 2016. Eight wins and a total of 15 podium finishes in 11 races on three continents: this is the latest summary of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport racers. Michael Dunlop (GB) dominated the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man with his Hawk Racing BMW S 1000 RR. In the Superstock class of the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR STK), Michal Prášek (CZ / Rohac and Fejta motoracing team) secured the title with races to spare after finishing twice on the podium in Most (CZ). His fellow BMW racers Lukáš Pešek (CZ) and Marcin Walkowiak (PL) also celebrated wins and podiums at the Most AARR round. In the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK), Jordan Szoke (CA) claimed another double win and Ben Young (CA) also stepped onto the podium after both races in Shubenacadie (CA). In the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK), Danilo Lewis (BR) established his championship lead by finishing second in São Paulo (BR). These results led to major changes at the top of the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.
2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.
The battle for the top positions of the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy is in full swing. Michal Prášek (CZ / AARR STK) defended the lead by claiming two podium finishes at the penultimate round of the season in Most (CZ). He now has 325.60 Race Trophy points to his name. His closest rival is now Jordan Szoke (CA / CSBK), who climbed from eighth to second with 291.25 points after celebrating another double win last weekend. New in third is Michael Dunlop (GB) with 239.35 points. With his four wins at the Southern 100, which counts for the Race Trophy through the BMW Combined Road Race Challenge (BMW RRC), he improved from 16th in the standings. Lukáš Pešek (CZ) is new in fourth with 233.60 points courtesy of a win and a podium in the Superbike class of the Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR SBK) (see full standings below).
Southern 100 on the Isle of Man.
It was a dominant performance: Hawk Racing rider Michael Dunlop (GB) proved to be unbeatable with his BMW S 1000 RR at the Southern 100 on the Isle of Man. The 27-year old participated in four of the event’s races – and won all four of them by a wide margin.
In the “Corlett’s Trophies” race, Dunlop was 12 seconds faster then the rest of the field. In the “Ellan Vannin Fuels Senior Race”, his advantage was no less than 25 seconds. In the prestigious “Manx Gas Solo Championship” – the most important race of the week – he won with a margin of seven seconds. The Hawk Racing rider completed his triumph with his fourth win of the event in the “Island Aggregates Senior Race”, with an advantage of 15 seconds.
Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship in Most, Czech Republic.
The fourth and penultimate round of the 2016 Alpe Adria Road Racing Championship (AARR) was held at Most (CZ) last weekend. At his home round, BMW racer Michal Prášek (CZ) secured an early title win in the Superstock class (AARR STK). The Rohac and Fejta motoracing team rider finished the two races in second and third on the podium. In the eight races held so far this season, Prášek has claimed five wins and three more podiums – and was crowned champion before the final round is held at the end of September at the Slovakia Ring (SK). It was Prášek’s second consecutive title win on the BMW S 1000 RR.
The old and new champion, however, was not the highest placed BMW rider in the Superstock races at Most. Marcin Walkowiak (PL / Team LRP Poland) won the first encounter and finished the second heat in second place. Marek Hartl (CZ / Dafitmotoracing) completed the successful outing for the RR racers, coming home in fourth and fifth.
There was also reason to celebrate in the highest category of the series, in the Superbike class (AARR SBK). Lukáš Pešek (CZ / BMW Motorrad CSEU) secured a dominant win in race two, crossing the line more than seven seconds in front of his closest rival. Pešek had also stepped onto the podium in race one by claiming second place. His team-mates Miloš Cihak (CZ) and Martin Choy (BG) also raced into the top five on both occasions. Cihak ended both races in fourth, Choy took fifth in both encounters.
Canadian Superbike Championship in Shubenacadie, Canada.
The winning streak continues: Jordan Szoke (CA / Mopar Express Lane BMW Superbike Team) keeps dominating the Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK). Races number four and five of the 2016 season were held at “Atlantic Motorsport Park” near Shubenacadie (CA) last weekend. Szoke celebrated another double win and extended his lead in the championship. It is now 12 races in a row that Szoke has won with his BMW S 1000 RR.
He was joined on the podium by fellow BMW rider Ben Young (CA / Ben Young Racing), who finished both races in third position. Michael Leon (CA / Royal Distributing Racing Team) crossed the line in fourth and fifth.
SuperBike Series Brasil in São Paulo, Brazil.
The fourth race of the 2016 SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK) was held in São Paulo (BR) last weekend. After having won the first three encounters of the season on his TecFil Racing BMW S 1000 RR, championship leader Danilo Lewis (BR) was narrowly beaten this time. He finished the race in second on the podium, only 0.043 seconds behind the winner. Diego Petrel (BR / BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing) scored a top-five finish, coming home in fifth.

Current Mopar Canadian Superbike Champion Jordan Szoke has remained undefeated in Canadian Superbike action since his return from injury in 2014. In 2015 he dominated the field by winning all seven races on the roster claiming the Canada Cup with a perfect season. He has defended his championship title in 2016 by chalking up all five pole positions and all five race wins thus far.
Earning them has not been easy the champ says. “These guys are hungry for a win to prove themselves, the season’s not over yet. We’ll remain focused on what we need to do. And I want to win.”
Szoke started from pole position after earning the Dalton Timmins Insurance Top Qualifier Award on Fridays Superpole session. Topping the charts with a one minute, 7.759 seconds around the 2.56km (1.6 mile) track located north of Halifax Nova Scotia.
“We’ve had a fantastic bike all year and I felt really comfortable today,” said Szoke, “It’s nice to have ‘Corndog’ [Jon Cornwell] back helping with our suspension work. We missed him at St-Eustache.”
Szoke claimed the holeshot during Saturdays Race #1 of the weekend and lead all 22 laps around the circuit finishing 7.437 seconds ahead of the field completing the race distance in 25 minutes, 18.997 seconds setting the fastest lap during lap three.
“I don’t normally get the holeshot but I got a great launch and I thought, ‘Right on, I’ll take it,’” said Szoke, “Passing is so hard here, and you don’t get a break over 22 laps. It’s a tough, tough physically demanding track. I’m sure it’ll be a little tougher tomorrow,” Szoke admitted. “These guys [Riedmann and Young] will do their homework and we have to do this all over again.”
Szoke took the lead during Race #2 of the weekend on lap 19 of 22 under dramatic conditions. In a race thwarted by sprinkles of rain, slick and treacherous conditions existed for the Superbike field. Szoke claimed the victory with his fifth win of the season completing the race in 25 minutes, 19.407 seconds.
Szoke has remained undefeated in Mopar Canadian Superbike action for 12 straight races.

Young Doubles Up on the Podium During First Visit To Atlantic Motorsport Park
SHUBENACADIE, N.S. – Collingwood, Ont. rookie Pro Superbike rider Ben Young turned some heads this past weekend, and it wasn’t due to the new mustache he was sporting. During his first-ever visit to Atlantic Motorsport Park (AMP) he not only set the second fastest time in the Dalton Timmis Insurance Top Qualifier SuperPole shootout he earned back-to-back third place finishes during the Atlantic Canada stop of the MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship tour.
On Thursday evening Young was a guest along with fellow CSBK riders at a Meet The Racers event hosted by series and event sponsor Pro Cycle at their brand new facility in Dartmouth N.S. After an evening of music, food, bikes and a few laughs it was time to get to work.
During Friday’s Dalton Timmis Insurance Top Qualifier SuperPole shootout Young set the second fastest time of a 1:08.861 aboard his #86 Tim Horton’s / Scot-Build Developments / BMW Motorrad BMW S1000RR placing him on the front row for the weekend’s doubleheader round at Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. For his efforts Young received a $500 cheque from Dalton Timmis Insurance along with three points in the Pro Superbike standings.
In the first Pro Superbike feature race of the doubleheader round he initially led the chase of the current MOPAR CSBK Champion. However, on lap four the #42 machine got past Young in dramatic fashion. The two front-runners wanting to challenge the leader battled side-by-side for second spot through the hairpin in turn 9 before Young would unwillingly lose the position to the #42 machine. Young, now in third, and the second place rider were unable to put together a formidable challenge for the lead. Young would secure his third straight podium finish with a 3rd.
“We have a few changes in mind that we’ll try to improve the set-up for tomorrow’s race and I hope to get a better start as well.” said Young
Starting from second on the grid in Sunday’s feature Pro Superbike race the 23-year-old realized today’s weather was going to add another element for all the competitors to manage. A light rain was falling but not hard enough to make it necessary to change over to the Dunlop rain tires but enough produce potentially slick conditions.
Trying to match his explosive holeshot that took him to the lead in Saint-Eustache, Young got a solid start and was part of the lead battle making challenges whenever the opportunity presented itself. At the halfway point of the race Young encountered issues with rear grip and started to lose ground. The pilot of #86 Tim Horton’s / Scot-Build Developments / BMW Motorrad BMW S1000RR would secure his fourth consecutive podium finish crossing the start/finish line in 3rd.
“We gambled on different tire pressures for today’s race so that may have contributed to rear grip issues we had later on in the race.” said Young “There’s no way I could have done this well here at AMP without Willie and Scott! Their outstanding knowledge and commitment in setting up the BMW S1000RR has been crucial to the team’s progress this season.”
Young maintains third place in the Pro Superbike point standings with 186 heading to one of the most anticipated rounds on the CSBK tour at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He’s also extended his lead in the Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year point standings.
Both of this past weekend’s Superbike feature races will be shown on TSN, presented by Dalton Timmis Insurance. Check www.csbk.ca or local listings for dates and times and any changes as well as rebroadcast dates and times.
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park sets the stage for rounds 6 and 7 of the national MOPAR Canadian Superbike road racing series – August 19 – 21, 2016. Additionally this doubleheader round features the 10th Annual BMW Motorrad Days 2016. In addition to the and fast-paced motorcycle racing action popular events this year will include the 2017 BMW Motorrad Product Launch, Concept Bike displays, the Mattie Griffin stunt shows, the Extreme Trials Shows and rider training.

More, from press release issued by Stacey Nesbitt’s publicist:
SHUBENACADIE, N.S. – July 15-17 saw the latest rounds of Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Atlantic Motorsport Park. After the disappointment of mechanical issues at St-Eustache it was thanks to S.C. Motosport and Pat Milligan to have a motor ready for the East Coast races. Morning practice was eventful when the steering damper bracket broke. Fortunately Stacey was able to hang on to a couple big tank slappers that were violent enough to sheer off the steering stop bolts! On the plus side the motor was working fine. Stacey was not happy with the font end feel some so changes were made for qualifying on Friday afternoon.
In the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike class Stacey qualified her Statoni Racing/BLK RDR by Motvan 600 in seventh place and twelfth in Mopar Pro Superbike. Her lap times were down on the previous year so more work needed to be done. It was great to have Jon Cornwell back and he made suspension improvements all weekend with changes on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday was very hot and humid for both races. First up was the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike. As the lights changed Stacey delayed her start to avoid a jump start penalty. She retained her seventh position and battled hard for a few laps before moving up to sixth. By that time the gap to fifth was too large to close down but she set a new personal best lap time. A good start in the Mopar Superbike race saw Stacey move up a couple of positions into turn one. The Superbikes soon showed their pace at the end of the roller coaster back straight. At the finish Stacey crossed the line in eleventh and the second 600 home. It was tough physically in the heat after 40 laps of racing but Stacey was happy with the progress from Friday.
Sunday was cooler with the forecast calling for rain in the afternoon. Again first up was the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike race. A better start saw her battle hard for fifth eventually crossing the line to finish fourth. Another new personal best lap time by a further half a second and not far from the podium.
For the Mopar Superbike race there were rain drops at the start but the track remained dry throughout. It turned into a good battle between four or five riders. Stacey moved up to eleventh challenging for tenth and back down to thirteenth again. She finished twelfth.
“Overall I am happy with how the weekend went. The bike felt good with the suspension improvements ‘Corndog’ (Jon Cornwell) made throughout the weekend and I got more confident each day. I was able to improve my lap time from last year on the same bike. It is a relief to start to show some progress again after all the problems in the past year. The goal is to continue this progression at the next round.”
Thanks to the ARL for their hard work with track preparation, the corner workers, medical staff, photographers, CSBK and the fans/supporters for coming out to cheer on the racers.
