SONOMA, Calif. — Joey Pascarella took another podium in round five of the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) premier class on Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. In the first lap Pascarella dropped from position one to two, which he then maintained for the duration of the race. Pascarella is currently second in the Dunlop Race Tire Service Formula Pacific Championship.

“It felt great to be back riding after two months off,” said Pascarella. “It was an odd race for me, but we got through it. We were able to get some points and are moving closer to the end. It looks like it’s going to be a good battle for the title this year, and I am looking forward to riding before round six. I can’t thank everyone who supports me and makes this a reality enough. Hopefully we can make some more progress and come back with something to give us an edge and be back on top.”

AFM round six takes place on October 1-2 at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California.

A double one-two for the BMW S 1000 RR in France.

More wins and podiums for the BMW S 1000 RR: The BMW Motorrad Motorsport racers were successful in the French Superbike Championship and the French European Bikes Championship last weekend.

Munich (DE), 7th September 2016. Last weekend the BMW Motorrad Motorsport racers were in action in the French Superbike Championship (FSBK) and the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU), as well as in the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV). They claimed two wins and a total of five podium finishes for the BMW S 1000 RR. With their results they also collected further points towards the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy (see full standings below).

French Superbike Championship at Circuit Carole, France.

The sixth and penultimate round of the 2016 French Superbike Championship (FSBK) was held at “Circuit Carole” near Paris (FR) at the weekend. Kenny Foray (FR / Tecmas Racing Team) travelled to Carole second overall and in the middle of the title fight. Foray finished second on the podium in race one, setting the fastest race lap with his BMW S 1000 RR. In the second heat he started from pole-position, but unfortunately his race came to an early end. For as yet unknown reasons, his bike slowed down and was hit from behind by another rider. This ended Foray’s title hopes. Being second overall, he is now 58 points behind David Checa (ES), who has already been crowned the new champion.

French European Bikes Championship at Circuit Carole, France.

The BMW racers in the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) continued their winning streak at the sixth and penultimate round at “Circuit Carole” (FR) – claiming another double one-two for the BMW S 1000 RR. In race one no less than nine RRs crossed the line in the top ten. Victory was secured to Benjamin Colliaux (FR / Team Cherot Moto Sport), who also set the fastest race lap. Florian Brunet-Lugardon (FR / Gers Motor Vitesse Ordannaise) joined him on the podium in second. Places four to ten also went to BMW riders: Michel Smalric (FR / Tecmas Racing Team), Cyril Brunet-Lugardon (FR / Gers Motor Vitesse Ordannaise), Florian Drouin (FR), Hernani Teixeira (FR / Team ERT / Motorshow), Madjid Idres (FR / Team ERT / Motorshow), Manu Dagault (FR / Fast Team Racing) and Leon Benichou (Team RMS).

In race two Amalric celebrated his first win of the season on his Tecmas Racing BMW S 1000 RR. Cyril Brunet-Lugardon claimed second place on the podium. Three more RR riders finished in the top ten: Florian Brunet-Lugardon was fourth, Benichou fifth and Drouin seventh. In the championship standings, three BMW riders are in front. With two races to go at the season finale in Albi (FR), Colliaux leads with 198 points, Florian Brunet-Lugardon is second with 181 points and Amalric follows in third with 129 points.

Italian Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy.

The iconic “Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari” in Imola (IT) hosted the fourth round of the 2016 Italian Superbike Championship (CIV) last weekend. In both races three BMW S 1000 RR riders crossed the finish line in the top ten. In race one, Alessandro Polita (IT / Tutapista) was sixth, followed by Denni Schiavoni (IT / DMR Racing Team) in seventh and Lorenzo Lanzi (IT / TMF) in ninth. Lanzi was then the highest placed BMW racer in race two, finishing in sixth position. Polita was seventh, while Matteo Ferrari (IT / DMR Racing Team) took the chequered flag in eighth.
