BMW adds the IDM Riders’ title to its collection. The successful round at the Sachsenring means one thing is certain: the BMW riders will contest the 2012 IDM title among themselves. Munich/Hohenstein-Ernstthal. Having already won the Manufacturers’ Championship, BMW has now also secured the Riders’ title in the fiercely competitive IDM Superbike category of the 2012 International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM). The outcome of the penultimate race weekend of the season at the Sachsenring (GER) is that this title is destined for a BMW rider. Only one question remains: which rider from one of the teams receiving direct support from BMW HP RaceSupport will be crowned 2012 champion. This will be determined at the season finale in Hockenheim (GER) on 15th and 16th September. It is now down to a three-horse race for the championship, with Michael Ranseder (AUT), Erwan Nigon (FRA) and Jörg Teuchert (GER) still in contention on their BMW S 1000 RRs. BMW had already successfully defended the title in the Manufacturers’ competition with races to spare at the start of August. Last weekend the Sachsenring played host to the seventh of eight race weekends this season, and it was a familiar story: BMW riders once again dominated, claiming one win and five podium finishes. Race one was won by Nigon on an RR run by the Van Zon alpha Technik BMW team. He was joined on the podium by Teuchert (Wilbers BMW racing) and Ranseder (Technogym Racing Austria Fritze Tuning) in second and third respectively. In total, seven RRs finished in the top ten. Two of BMW’s title contenders also stepped onto the podium at the end of the second race: Ranseder and Teuchert came home in second and third, behind winner Dario Giuseppetti (GER / Ducati). Nigon narrowly missed out on another podium finish, crossing the line in fourth place. In this race, six BMW riders finished in the top ten. In the IDM Superbike Riders’ Championship, BMW riders continue to occupy the top four positions. Ranseder leads with 225 points, eight points more than second-placed Nigon (217 points). Teuchert is third with 202 points and, with 50 points up for grabs in the final two races in Hockenheim, still has a chance of winning the title. Fourth overall is Gareth Jones (AUS), who also rides for the Wilbers team and currently has 168 points to his name. After seven race weekends, champion BMW now has 562 points in the Manufacturers’ Championship and a lead of 362 points over second-placed Honda (200 points). “After winning the Manufacturers’ title, we have now achieved our second major goal this weekend namely securing the Riders’ title in this important championship for BMW and HP RaceSupport,” said Berthold Hauser, Head of BMW Motorrad HP RaceSupport. “One thing is now certain: the top three positions will be occupied exclusively by RR teams and riders come the end of the season. This result is also a major success for our squad and just reward for all the hard work. Congratulations to all the BMW teams in this championship on their excellent performances. We can now relax as we watch the finale unfold. However, we will obviously continue to give all our BMW teams the support they require. Despite the dominance of the RR teams, there is still guaranteed to be some goosebumps when the guys accelerate and produce the kind of thrilling wheel-to-wheel action that the spectators love so much. That was the case at the Sachsenring and will be at the finale in Hockenheim too.” More, from a press release issued by Zalusky Advanced Riding School: Brainerd, MN (September 5) Zalusky Advanced Riding School and Track Days (ZARS) recently held it’s fifth round for the Shootout Series and Rider Challenge Championships and Track Day on September 3, at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota. More, from a press release issued by Cameron Gish’s publicist: Cameron Gish made his return to racing this past weekend at Sonoma raceway after injuries he sustained during the 3rd round of AMA Pro Racing’s Motorcycle SuperStore.com SuperSport class. Cameron while in 4th position lost the front end of his Z2 Racing, Jon Block Group YZF-R6 entering turn 1 on the 4th lap of the race. Cameron was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial hospital where he was treated for a torn ACL, fractured L5 Vertebrae, and internal bleeding. Gish also underwent surgery to repair his pelvis which was fractured in 8 places. After nearly 2 weeks in hospital, 2 more months of recovery with a external fixator to help heal his pelvis, and a month and a half of physical therapy Gish felt fit to participate at the same track he sustained the injuries at just 4 months earlier. When asked about the recovery process Gish had this to say ” It has been the hardest 4 months of my life, the injury really made me realize how much I not only took racing but simpler things like walking for granted. I’m just so grateful I was able to recover and get back to what I love doing.” Gish’s return to racing was nothing short of miraculous after only one day on a stock bike prior to the weekend he was still able to collect a 2nd place finish in 600 Production from the back of the grid after going through more adversity earlier in the day. ” I just can’t thank all my family and sponsors who have been behind me through my recovery enough, Z2 Racing, CT Racing, The Jon Block Group, Stockton Optometry, Leo Vince, BBJK, Arai, Motion Pro, Mike Canfield Technologies, Moto Wheels, NK Components, GPR, Corse Dynamics, Race Image, Yamalube, ACT, Cortech, Champion Powder Coating, Zero Gravity, Tech Spec, Optimal Racing, Pit Bull, CRG. Following the weekend Gish compiled footage from his recovery and put together a video to help put into perspective for himself what he had been through to get to where he was now, and as a reminder to not take racing for granted.
