ONE ALL AS KENNEDY AND RICHARDS VICTORIOUS AT BRANDS HATCH The battle for the lead of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag continued at Brands Hatch last weekend as Jack Kennedy and Glen Richards went head to head to score a win each in the seventh round of the season in two spectacular races on the Grand Prix circuit. Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Triumph’s Richards won a sensational Sprint race following a 10 lap tussle with title rival Kennedy that went down to the wire. The pair remained inseparable during the race and swapped positions several times before Richards hit the front again on the penultimate lap, only for Kennedy to regain the lead. The battle for the win came down to the final lap as Richards snatched the lead from Kennedy who continued to shadow his rival, but the Australian held the lead to the line by just 0.090 seconds. Meanwhile McConnell had been holding onto third a crash on the final lap left Iddon to claim third and his first podium of the season for Oxford TAG Triumph. Richards had a flying start in the Feature race until Kennedy took the lead whilst Christian Iddon and Billy McConnell were battling for third for several laps. Richards took the lead, but the race was then red flagged when Luke Jones crashed and sustained an ankle injury in the crash. The restart over six laps saw Richards again heading the pack into Paddock Hill Bend but it was short lived as Kennedy then took the lead. Richards tried to make a move on the final lap but despite getting ahead standings leader Kennedy hit the front where he remained to the chequered flag. McConnell bounced back from his Sprint race crash to claim third from Iddon and Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson . Although no stranger to British Championship action, Hegarty was having his first outing of the year, and his first with Lawson, but it didn’t show as they completed the double in fine style. However, a brace of seconds ensured Roger Lovelock/Rick Lawrence extended their Championship lead to a now ominous-looking 57 points. The opening race of the weekend took place, unusually, on Friday and was held on the shorter 1.2-mile Indy circuit and it was Lovelock/Lawrence who led in the early stages. Scott Lawrie/James Neave were right on their tail with Hegarty/Lawson, in turn shadowing them and at half race distance, the trio were separated by less than a second. Hegarty had taken over second on lap three and, two laps later, he hit the front. Andy Peach/Charlie Richardson were holding onto fourth just ahead of Johan Reuterholt/Aki Aalto The situation remained the same until lap 8 when Lovelock regained the lead but Folkestone’s Hegarty wasn’t to be denied and was back in control a lap later, a position he held until the end of the 15-lap race. The gap was 1.365s whilst Lawrie was only a further nine tenths of a second behind. Peach took control of fourth with Reuterholt having a lonely drive into fifth as John Clarke/Stuart Graham came through the field for a good sixth, just ahead of Ben Bygrave/Paul Knapton and Ben Holland/Lee Watson. Sunday’s 10-lap encounter, held on the longer 2.43-mile GP circuit followed a similar pattern but there was drama before it had begun with both Holland/Watson and Gary Horspole/Rob Biggs failing to make the start. When the lights turned green though, it was again Lovelock/Lawrence who completed the first lap in the lead. Both Hegarty and Lawrie were right in his slipstream but, with overtaking difficult, it wasn’t until lap 8 that Hegarty was able to make a pass stick. Once through, he gave Lovelock no opportunity to respond and duly completed the double, his winning margin on this occasion 0.367s. Lawrie slipped back in the closing stages but was safe in third and it was Gary Smith/Shelley Smithies who took fourth for their best result of the season. Reuterholt/Aalto were just over half a second adrift in fifth with Mark Edwards/Lee Barrett secure in sixth. In a race of high attrition, with Clarke, Bygrave and Peach just some of the retirements, Steve Kershaw/Robin Wilson, Craig Chaplow/Darren Tritton, Liam Abbott/Justin Sharp and Ian Guy/Carol McBride completed the top ten. The results mean that Lovelock/Lawrence continue to head the table with 196 points, their advantage now up to 57 points and the two third places has elevated Lawrie up to second. Holland’s disappointing weekend sees him slip back to third on 119 points with the top six rounded out by James/Lawson (85), Reeves/Hawes (84) and Reuterholt/Aalto (67). Hegarty’s double sees him slot into 11th overall. The next round takes place at Donington Park on September 7-9. More, from a press release issued by Alex Wisdom Racing: Round 6 USGPRU National Championship Series July 22nd 2012 Blackhawk Farms Raceway, South Beloit, IL Wisdom secures USGPRU 2012 Moriwaki MD250H USA National Championship. Alex Wisdom riding a Moriwaki MD250H has won the 2012 USGPRU MD250H USA National Championship. Wisdom (15) secured the Championship with a dominating win at the sixth round of the 8 round National Championship series held at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, South Beloit IL. The CCS Moto 3 race was the first race of the day with Wisdom able to ride the Moto 3 Moriwaki for the first time since his high speed crash at VIR a few weeks earlier required many hours of rebuilding. A steady first couple of laps unfortunately allowed the front runners to get away. Wisdom commented “I was taking it steady to get used to the bike and unfortunately this allowed the leaders to break away, so third place was a good result to start the day off.” The USGPRU GP250 race was next up and his single cylinder Moriwaki was just not up to the power of the GP250s at this track. Wisdom commented, “I had nothing for the GP 250 bikes down the straights and had to settle for third.” This keeps his GP250 Championship hopes alive with just two rounds left he is still in second place. The USGPRU Moto 3 Race was a race long battle with Stewart Aitken Cade, both riders swapping positions as they carved through the field of Pro Thunder bike riders that had started ahead of them in the joint Moto 3/ Pro thunder bike grid. Wisdom secured another podium finish for the weekend due to a strong last lap effort taking 3rd place from Aitken Cade. Wisdom still leads the Moto 3 National Championship by 23 points with just two rounds remaining. The MD250H Spec series race was joined with the Unlimited GP bikes , Wisdom did not get the hole shot, but by the end of the first lap he was leading the Moriwaki race and started to hunt down the big bikes, by lap four he was up to 5th place overall and first in the Moriwaki. He continued to gap the next Moriwaki by nearly two seconds a lap and was battling with Bob Schneider riding a Buell 1200 as they took the chequered flag. Wisdom punched the air in celebration of his first National Championship. During the post race interview Wisdom was visibly happy and commented: “I would like to thank Schaeffer Oil, Arsenal Leatherworks, Dunlop Tires and Ballistic Performance for their product support and to Moriwaki for making an awesome bike that matched with the Dunlop tires gave me the tools to win the Championship, also want to thank Stewart Aitken Cade, Mom and Dad and everyone for putting up with me this year.” Alex Wisdom Racing continues their challenge for the USGPRU Moto3 & GP250 USA National titles at New Jersey Motorsports Park NJ, the weekend of September 1st & 2nd, 2012. More, from a press release issued by Waznie Racing: Szoke Leads the Canadian Superbike Championship Jordan Szoke snatched the victory at Atlantic Motorsports Park in a dramatic last lap pass to extend his points lead to 35 in the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship. Szoke completed the race in 16 minutes 5.075 seconds to take the checkered by a thin 0.230 at the line. Taking his sixth superbike career victory at the 2.56 km road course, affectionately known as “the roller coaster”, Szoke is well on his way to an unprecedented eighth Canadian Superbike title. “I didn’t get the best of starts, but you really have to be patient around here or it will bite you,” Szoke said, referring to the race delay that caused the race to shorten to 14 laps. Szoke found himself third off the line on the restart after claiming his third straight pole position of the season. The Superbike race was red flagged just after two laps and required the riders to take back to the grid. “That was a dogfight out there,” said Szoke. “I had to pick off riders where I could. This track isn’t the easiest one to race at and you need to be careful.” “So far we are having such an amazing season, I really have to thank my crew,” he added. “We all work so well together and it shows in our results.” Jordan takes his 151 points to Round 4, which will be hosted August 10-12 at the beautiful Circut Mont-Tremblant.
