TT Motosport/Good Clean Vapes Racing Tim Hunt’s six podiums in six races in WERA Sportsman Series at Barber Motorsports Park.
The entire TT Motosport/Good Clean Vapes Racing team was excited to get to Barber Motorsports Park for the WERA Regional event. For Expert Tim Hunt, it is one of his favorite tracks. Matt McCord has not raced in over nine years, Michael Zumbrum had never ridden Barber before, and Cory Hunt and Adrian Mitchell would be experiencing their first ever race weekend.
With no practice on Friday, the riders were fully aware of the difficult task at hand: to learn a new, very demanding technical track despite only two short morning practices. Saturday started off with torrential down pours in the morning. Both practices were wet and cold. TTMotosport/GCV Owner Tim Hunt had the daunting task of making sure all of the riders’ bikes and suspension were set up, as well as teaching them the new track on top of having his own races to prepare for. Towards the end of the morning the rain stopped and the track started to dry. All of the bikes had to be switched from wet to dry tires for the upcoming Solo 16 races.
Expert Tim Hunt started the race weekend off right by earning a spot up on the box. After a fierce battle with two other racers, he took the checkered flag with a second place finish in the Middleweight Solo 16. The new K-Tech suspension felt great at this track. It was Tim’s first time riding with it on a track with elevation changes and wet conditions. “The K-Tech felt great from the start. There was just few small changes that we will make for tomorrow but overall I think its 98% dialed in.” Tim stated.
For Sunday’s races, the rain was threatening all morning but by the afternoon it was hot and sunny. With every race came new track conditions for the novice racers to figure out.
Hunt was Happy with his finish on Saturday, but he felt with a few adjustments to the bike and feeling more relaxed on day two he could find his way to the top. With his first race, Tim took first place in C Superbike Expert with a commanding lead. From there he kept the winning streak through three more races: B Superbike Expert, C Superstock Expert and One Vision Senior Superbike Expert Middleweight. With Tim’s last race of the day, he was on a back to back to back and battled for most of the race but found himself just off the top of the box with a second place finish in B Superstock Expert.
Cory Hunt ended his first race weekend with a top five finish in B Superstock Novice.
Matt McCord finished out the weekend with a podium in One Vision Senior Superbike Novice Middleweight.
Michael Zumbrum took home a second in Heavyweight Solo 16 Novice, a third in A Superbike Novice and 3 top five finishes in A Superstock Novice, Formula 1 Novice and One Vision Senior Superbike Heavyweight Novice.
Adrian Mitchell completed his first race weekend with a top ten finish in B Superstock Novice.
Tim Hunt would like to say thank you to all of his sponsors for helping to make this a successful weekend. Tim Hunt – Owner & Rider for TT Motosport/Apex Race Services/Good Clean Vapes
“The team had a fantastic weekend. After a rainy Saturday, we all only had a few laps before the race. But as usual my Dunlop tires on the Yamaha R6 felt like home. The K-Tech suspension that we are running now is VERY good and with just a few adjustments our pace was very fast. I’m really happy to have been able to compete with some extremely talented riders. The crew gave me great support and a special thanks to Leigh Anna Hunt and Arlington ‘AJ’ Darr who worked very hard this weekend tanking care of five riders. As usual Arai Helmets and Ballistik Leathers gave me the confidence to push to the limit!!.”

More, from a press release issued by Team WD-40:
TARRAN MACKENZIE takes first race win at KNOCKHILL
Racing in Scotland with the Mackenzie Clan was always going to be exciting. It started with a BSB and Knockhill Circuit PR event where Taylor, Team WD-40 Superbike and Tarran, STAUFF Connect Academy along with other leading BSB riders were privileged to ride a closed Fourth road bridge to promote the event and road safety.
Proud of their Scottish heritage both Tarran and Taylor who’s father Niall runs track days at Knockhill were really looking forward to racing at what is their home circuit. Tarran took his first ever 600cc podium in 2014 and hoped to repeat that form, where Taylor was looking to continue his impressive first season in BSB.
Both Jack Kennedy and Joe Irving have also had past success in Scotland which they hoped to continue. Practice did not start well for Team WD-40 with Taylor missing most of the first session and Jack settling in. Over the next 2 days with great progress in closing the time gap to the leaders the final qualifying was a stunning affair and something other Championships can only dream of – Jack was only 0.4 and Taylor 0.6 of pole to end 21st and 25th on the grid unbelievable !
Race 1, unfortunately Jack again crashed out early on, but Taylor put together a great race just missing his first points in 16th.
Race 2 both riders made good starts and started to move forward. Interestingly championship contender James Ellison ran off track and rejoined between Jack and Taylor and started a race long battle showing the Team WD-40 riders have the race pace to run with the leaders. Jack made a little mistake on the last lap costing him more points and again Taylor just missing out
Stauff Connect Academy riders Tarran Mackenzie and Joe Irving again continue their excellent form and progress. Taz arrived at Knockhill looking relaxed on the back of his podium and lap record at Snetterton last time out. Joe was eager to get cracking as the weather forecast for final qualifying was terrible. Taz put together a fantastic qualifying taking 2nd on the grid and showing brilliant race pace and Joe again with a solid effort
The Pirelli Superstock 600 race immediately grabbed the hearts and attention of the home Crowd with Tarran Mackenzie making a fantastic start and sitting with the leaders, Joe unfortunately retired early with an electrical problem. Tarran lying in 4th made his move grabbing the lead to the delight of the home crowd on the 3rd lap and simply pulled away, building a 1.7 second lead to take his first ever 600 cc race victory and again setting the fastest lap.
Jack Kennedy: “This weekend has been a bit disappointing, the times were very close but that is the nature of Knockhill. It is hard to get your head around when you’re 0.4 off pole in qualifying and still only 21st on the grid. Race one I was feeling ready to push for some points but I ended up in the gravel at the hairpin and unfortunately my race was over. That put me on the back row of the grid for race two. The red flag in race two gave me a better chance moving me up to 21st on the grid for the restart sprint race. I battled my way into the points only to hit a neutral on the penultimate lap losing two places ending 17th. It still hasn’t clicked with us yet , but with all the effort we are putting in as a Team it’s bound to come right soon.. JK#44
Taylor Mackenzie: “Happy to finally get two decent finishes under my belt. I was unlucky to miss out on my first points this weekend but hopefully we can rectify that at the next one at Brands Hatch..
Tarran Mackenzie: “I had such and awesome weekend! We only had one qualifying due to the weather so I ended up 2nd on the grid. Going into the race I felt really confident, In the first few laps I was battling for a podium but felt I had the pace to lead so went for it and then got my head down to make a brake and build a 1.7 second gap on the riders behind me. I’m so happy to finally get my first victory and I can’t thank the whole Team and sponsors enough! I am really excited for Brands hatch GP in 2 weeks as I had my first pole there last year,! “
Joe Irving: ” Free practice went well and I got my best placing of the year so far. Going into qualy I felt really confident unfortunately I didn’t put my best sectors together in one laps and ended up 22nd. In warm up I did my best lap of the weekend but had a problem. My Team Jez and Garry worked really hard to fix for the race. I really struggled in the race and with 10 laps to go the electrical gremlins returned and I could not finish. I am taking the positives from Knockhill to Brands Hatch and see what we can do there.
Brent Gladwin: “Knockhill was a strange event for us all-round a real roller coaster. It started with the fantastic PR event on the Fourth Bridge which brought the public attention to our sport and the BSB event at Knockhill. The Weather was just a nightmare with really weird changes from high winds, rain, thunder and lightning to the hottest day on record. The racing was just no different; it’s hard to comprehend being 0.4 off pole and sitting 21st on the grid. In other championships the top 10 can be some 5 seconds of pole! I have to say I am over the moon with how Team WD-40 Superbike crews and riders are working and we just need to get closer in qualifying to give the boys a run at it. Tarran finally got the monkey off his back to win and what better place for a Mackenzie to do it than Knockhill bringing tears to the eyes of his proud Mum and Dad. Taz now sits in a solid 3rd in the championship at the half way stage, quite a nice place to be. Next race is Brands GP where the team has had quite good recent success so we are looking to build on that.
Josh has his next British Championship race this coming weekend and Sam is again out at the North East. So we all wish them continued sucsess ther.
