MotoGP Following a break in the action, the MotoGP series resumes in the United States at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Known as the “Brickyard”, the site of the famous Indy 500, this course is laid out in the infield of this well-known facility. Bel-Ray backed Power Electronics racers Randy DuPuniet and Aleix Espargaro come to Indy tied on points as the best CRT racers in the series. The short break has enabled the racers to relax and prepare for the final stretch of the season. DePuniet spoke about this leading up to this weekend. “After Laguna Seca I spent a few days at Colin Edwards’ house and had a lot of fun. We rode some dirt bikes and motocross bikes and then after that I went to stay with some friends in the Bahamas. It has been a nice holiday with plenty of opportunity to relax but I have also been doing sport every day. Now it is time to turn our minds back to racing. It is two weeks since the USGP so I am looking forward to getting back on the bike.” Espargaro also used the time off to recharge. “The break came at a good time for me. I needed to switch off and the time has flown by but I was able to spend it at home with family and friends and relax on the beach. I have also kept up to my daily training plan to make sure that I am fit and full of motivation for Indianapolis. The championship is long and tough. Luckily for us things have gone well in the first half of the season but we need to keep working hard to keep it going.” Moto2 Bel-Ray sponsored Mapfre Aspar racer Nico Terol is joined by a new teammate for the remainder of the championship series, current Moto2 Spanish Championship leader Jordi Torres, joins the team as a replacement for Toni Elias. Terol considers this one of his favorite tracks on the circuit. He’s won 3 times in the last 4 years at Indianapolis, a trend he hopes to continue this weekend. “I have some great memories of Indianapolis and I hope my style on the Moto2 bike is as suited to it as it was on the 125. During the break I have taken some time off to recharge my batteries but I have been working hard and did some testing on a 600 at Albacete to try and mimic the feel of a Moto2 bike. Indianapolis is a circuit that demands a lot of concentration because it is bumpy off line and you can easily crash if you run wide. It has some flowing sections and it is a physically demanding lap with some hard braking and acceleration zones.” Torres spoke positively about his addition to the team and this weekend’s race. “I can’t wait to get out to Indianapolis and luckily I go there with prior knowledge of the track and the team. I just need to get a feel for the bike as quickly as possible and adapt to the Dunlop tires, then fight my hardest from there. My objective is simply to give it 100% from the first session to try and be as competitive as possible. Hopefully we can make gradual steps forward and make the most of this opportunity. I know there is a place in Moto2 up for grabs and I am going to give it my best shot.” Moto3 With more than a month off since the last competed the Moto3 series resumes this weekend in Indianapolis. The Bel-Ray sponsored Mapfre Aspar team has a new rider for the rest of the season as German racer Jonas Folger replaces Alberto Moncayo on the team. Folger is excited about his debut and spoke about it leading up to this weekend’s event. “I am really excited and a little nervous about the new challenge ahead of me starting this weekend. Everything is new for me the bike, the team, etc. I will work very hard from the first session to try and adapt as quickly as possible. Hopefully we can get on the right path with the bike and be fighting near the front from the start. Aside from the results, the most important thing right now is to adapt quickly to the team and the bike, get a good feeling and go as fast as I can. If I can manage that, I am sure the results will come. Indianapolis is a difficult circuit but I like it and hopefully it proves to be a good place to make my debut with the MAPFRE Aspar Team.” Faubel spoke about his time off, the chance for relaxation and his preparation for the remainder of the season. “At the start of the holidays I took the opportunity to have a rest and then I continued the training plan that I have for the season. I have worked hard on the bicycle and on the motocross bike but without taking too many risks of crashing. Since last week I have been going to bed later and later to try and get used to the time difference. Indianapolis is a circuit with unpredictable grip levels but I like it. The first and final sectors are quite twisty and that’s where you can make up time.” More, from a press release issued by KLR Group Racing: Wyman and Barnes ready to earn some Indy hardware for KLR Group INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 16) — The points in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series have been reset and the 10 riders now eligible for the 2012 championship are on equal footing heading into this weekend’s Red Bull Moto GP at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With two of the five remaining races set to be contested in Indy — at 4:20 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday — KLR Group riders Kyle Wyman and Michael Barnes know much will be decided at the Brickyard. Considering both riders have reached the podium at all seven races so far this year, they are understandably expecting big things to happen on their specially-prepared Spyke’s Harley-Davidson mounts. “We’re ready to go,” Wyman said. “I’ve been fortunate enough to win three races this year and before everyone of those events I made sure I had a few days alone with no distractions so I could focus my mind and all my attention on riding to the best of my abilities. I actually found a hotel next to a Planet Fitness on the north side of Indy and I just holed up there ever since last weekend’s test. I feel great. My mind is clear and my dreams have returned to what I need to do to end the day in the winner’s circle. “This is the biggest weekend of the year. If we run well, the championship chase will play right into our hands. If we mess up, we’re going to put ourselves in a hole. There is no room for error because I know everyone else will be trying just as hard as we are.” Wyman and Barnes, a one-time winner this season who recently joined the KLR Group race team, looked sharp in last Saturday’s test at IMS, turning the second and third quickest laps, respectively. “The transition to Kyle’s team has been seamless,” the veteran Barnes said. “We have the same riding styles and intensity and it was fun riding with him during the test and seeing everything just fall into place. “We all have the same goal — to win the championship. The first two steps down that path happen this weekend. It’s an honor to race for the KLR Group and all the other companies and people that have helped me reach this point, and we can’t wait to show the MotoGP guys some real American horsepower.” Action in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series begins with a practice at 12:10 p.m. Friday followed by a lone qualifying session later that day at 4:10 p.m. That will set the field for the two main events. Kyle Wyman Racing receives support from the KLR Group, Gaston Kearby, Spyke’s Harley-Davidson, Planet Fitness, Vesrah, Arai, DVS, Küryakyn, Shimano, Ohlins, Electric Eyewear, Cortech, Maxima, Kicker, Motion Pro, CJ Motorsports, Long Pond Auto Body, Katra, Odi, Shorai, Held, The Sound Awake, G2, SIDI, 505 Blues and the Webster Dental Group.
