Rome, Georgia: Riding the momentum of her historic wins at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, 15-year-old Elena Myers took two wins and a second-place finish this weekend at the WERA West event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s “outer” track, from exciting come-from-behind grid positions. And we’re talking Expert class. Undeterred by an eighth-row grid position and a mid-race off-track excursion, Myers bested the field of racers in the Solo 20, 20-lap event, at Vegas, in only her second weekend of riding on Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa DOT racing tires. Through Myers’ challenging gridding she been able to show that she can win races by either leading the pack or by passing it, on her Kawasaki ZX-6R. Myers’ other win was in C Superstock where she started from the 12th row, immediately launching into seventh place by turn one, and then quickly passing the rest of the riders for the win. Myers said, “I rode a comfortable race. I like the track, it’s a pretty short lap but I like the layout. It has some fast stuff, some hard braking, I like that. I’m getting really good starts and I really like the tires. The feel of the front is great and I’m surprised at how easily they were to get comfortable on. Road racing is my thing. I love the speed and everything about that.” In C Superbike Myers started from the 7th row and seasoned professional racer Jeremy Toye took the win, with Myers finishing second. Myers said, “Jeremy was on the fifth row and we both had good starts but I was held up a bit and was in 10th into the first turn. But again, my tires worked great. I’m so happy with them. In the two eight-lap sprints I used the same front tire. I’d like to thank some people who’ve been helping me: my father [Matt] and mother [Anita], Kawasaki, Carry Andrew of Hypercycle who built my ZX-6R, the Pirelli guys Corey Neuer and Chris McGuire from CT Racing, and Alex Assanti from Bike911.com, and everyone else showing support.” Myers, who turns 16-years old in November, is doing the full schedule of the WERA West series. More, from a press release issued by Keith Amor’s publicist: Amor blitzes the opposition in Ireland Keith Amor left the opposition trailing firmly in his wake over the Easter weekend when he dominated proceedings at Bishopscourt and Kirkistown. Riding the Wilson Craig Honda’s, Amor recorded an impressive eight victories from the ten races he competed in and in those he didn’t win, he took too close runner-up spots. Commencing at Bishopscourt on Easter Saturday, the Falkirk ace registered wins in all three of the Superbike races, despite riding his Superstock machine, his margins of victory being 4.5, 2.3 and 3.4 seconds respectively. He then added the prestigious Enkalon Trophy to his collection, the first Scotsman to take the award in its 33-year history, adding his name alongside previous recipients like Phillip McCallen and Robert Dunlop. In the 600cc category, Amor was almost as dominant, winning the first two races and taking second in the third, just 0.2 seconds adrift of the race win. Moving on to Kirkistown on Easter Monday, the Amor express train continued at great pace with two more comfortable victories in the two Superbike races. He also took a close second in the opening Supersport race to round out a truly excellent two days of racing. Talking afterwards, a delight Keith commented: “It’s been a mega weekend and I’m really happy with the results – ten wins out of ten would have been great but I can’t be greedy! I only picked up the Superstock machine on Thursday and only just made it to the circuit in time for practice on Thursday but it ran brilliantly. I never changed a thing on it, not even the position of the handlebars or footpegs, nor the gearing, so I couldn’t be more happy with the performance of the ’09 Honda.” “We’re still putting the finishing touches to the new 600 so I rode my trusty 2006 machine and it did another great job. The old girl was beginning to get a bit tired on Monday so we skipped the final Supersport race but I’ve certainly got my money’s worth out of it! I concentrated really hard on the starts and got my head down for the first couple of laps in each race before keeping an eye on my pit board and controlling things accordingly. I was really happy with the times I was putting in on both machines and couldn’t have asked for any more from the weekend so it’s put me in a great frame of mind for the first road race in just under two weeks’ time.” Keith’s next outing will be at the Cookstown 100, the first Irish National Road Race of the season, with the meeting taking place on Saturday April 25. More, from a press release issued by Eric DeHaven: Young gun Austin DeHaven takes first 600cc podium. 2008 Red Bull Rookies cup competitor Austin DeHaven (who will turn 15 years old on April 17) earned the first 600cc podium finish of his career during a WERA West event April 12 at the Las Vegas Classic Course, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Austin started the 600cc Superstock on the 12th row of the grid and by the time the checkered flag waved he had moved his DD Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 up to third place, just two seconds behind second place and only six seconds behind race winner Robert Tinagero. “This is only my second race on the big bike and really only about the fifth time I have ever ridden one since coming off a 125,” said Austin. “So I am very happy with my result and it really helps my confidence moving forward to the rest of the season.” Austin also put in strong results in many other classes over the weekend. He took sixth place in the 20-lap Middleweight Solo race, sixth place in C Superbike, fifth place in B Superstock and eighth place – and the top 600cc machine – in Forumla One. A resident of Los Angeles, California, Austin will race his 2009-model DD Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 in selected events on the West Coast thanks to help from KBC Helmets, Motosport.com, Shift Racing, California Superbike School, Carry Andrew/Hypercycle, and Slednecks. Austin’s next race is a CCS/RoadRace Southwest event April 18-19 at Firebird Raceway, in Phoenix, Arizona. For more information, go to www.austindehaven.com.
