Acree is Back Lee Acree is 100% back. Acree made a successful return to racing at the Roebling Road, WERA National this weekend. Following a ten-month absence from the saddle he returned to the controls for the first time since being seriously injured last May. Acree rolled out for Friday practice and worked on getting himself back up to speed. With the help of weekend crew chief Rick Bretl and advice from Ohlins’ Mike Fitzgerald Acree was able to make great progress with the set-up of his GSX-R750. From the first practice through the final race of the event Acree’s pace improved with every session. This progression was highlighted by an appearance to the second step of the podium in the 750 Superstock final, just .024 behind winner and perennial rival Robert Jensen. The culmination of the comeback weekend came with Acree posting a time of 1:10.981 in the Formula 1 final making him the only rider to ever dip under the 1:11 mark on a sub-liter class motorcycle. Lee Acree: “It felt incredible to get back on the bike and back up to speed. I was confident that I would be competitive again, but it was definitely reassuring for that confidence to become reality. I am very blessed for everything to go so well and to get to share this weekend with my wife Laurie and daughter Emma. I want to thank everyone for welcoming me back to the racetrack. It felt like coming home to see everyone and to get right back to battling bar to bar with all my friends and rivals!” Acree’s return continues next weekend at WERA’s VIR Sportsman event followed by Round 2 of the WERA National Challenge Series at Talladega March 27-29. Acree is proud to compete with support from Marietta Motorsports, Dunlop Tire, Race Tire Service, Kevin Schwantz School, Arai Helmets, Sidi Boots, Vesrah Brakes, and KWS Motorsports.
