There will not be a GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Race Event at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), in Austin, Texas, during the 2013 season, according to track and AMA Pro Racing officials. When AMA Pro Racing released its 2013 road racing schedule in November of 2012, there was a TBA (To Be Announced) event indicated in the August/September time frame. That proposed event was to be held on Labor Day Weekend September 6-8, 2013, at COTA, according to sources with direct knowledge of the deal. But negotiations have broken off, and there will be no AMA Pro road race in Austin, Texas this season. “We discussed the possibility of hosting an AMA event at Circuit of The Americas with series organizers but determined that a 2013 race would not be possible,” Ali Putnam, Media Relations Manager for COTA, wrote in an e-mail to Roadracingworld.com. “We’ve not ruled out the possibility of hosting a race in future years.” “AMA Pro Racing has been in discussions with COTA over the past several months about the potential of holding a GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing event at the facility,” AMA Pro Racing Director of Communications Gene Crouch wrote in an e-mail to Roadracingworld.com. “While the event is not on the schedule at this time, we hope to bring a GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing event to our many fans in Texas in the near future.”
