Phoenix, Ariz. Returning to the east track at Firebird International Raceway, Ray Thibedeau won his second consecutive Unlimited Grand Prix on the No. 1 XCEL Trackdays Honda CBR1000 RR on Sunday, March 27 in the second round of CCS-Southwest racing. Unlimited GP sponsors Iron Horse BMW and Evan Steel Performance of Tucson, Ariz., brought one of their team riders, Tony Kasper of Becker, Minn., to the race determined to give the defending champion Thibodeau a run for his money. “They came on their 2011 BMWs and I knew the bike was a lot faster than my bike, and they had great equipment,” Thibedeau said. “I knew I had to ride hard, so I got a good start and put together 12 good, consistent laps. I was riding hard just to keep him behind me.” Riding the No. 68 Iron Horse BMW / Evan Steel Performance BMW S1000RR, Kasper finished second, after winning the Unlimited Superbike race on his Dunlops earlier in the afternoon. “I made a few mistakes in the beginning of Ultimate GP and was held up by some lappers it’s no fun getting second,” explained Kasper, whose next race will be the second AMA round at Infineon. “I did feel like we made a lot of progress in setting up the bike with ESP (Evan Steel Performance).” Bill Davis of Gilbert, Ariz., finished third on the No. 23 Jim Cox Racing Suzuki GSX-R 1000 in Unlimited GP, completing an all-Dunlop podium. Davis also finished second in Unlimited Superbike. James Romero III of San Clemente, Calif., finished third in Unlimited Superbike on the No. 65 In the Scene Limousine / Dunlop Suzuki GSX-R 1000.
