20 year old Ben Thompson of Anchorage Alaska turned a 1:07.78 lap to set a new counter clockwise lap record at Arroyo Seco Raceway on Saturday, April 15th during an ASMA trackday. Thompson was unofficially under the old lap record of 1:09.2 set by Kane Laskey in April 2005 in an open session when ASMA officials asked if he’d like to make it official during the trackday’s lunch break. Ben agreed and everyone in attendance watched as he first did a 1:08.3 and then a 1:07.78. Ben was riding a Suzuki GSXR1000 on the same Dunlop tires he used last weekend at the WERA National.
