American Honda-backed Jeffrey Tigert showed up on a remarkably stock Honda CBR1000RR and showed everyone the quick way around Willow’s big track, taking the win in the Willow Springs Motorcycle Club’s headline event and the $3000 winner’s share of the Toyota Cup Unlimited Formula 1 purse. Tigert’s Dunlop-shod Honda, stock, he said, except for braided front brake lines, different gearing and shifter, pipe and Power Commander, had a tough time fending off a determined Karl Lowry on Willow’s long straights. But Tigert could make the pass on the brakes going into Turn One, and after Lowry and his Graves Motorsports-backed, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 led across the stripe on laps 14 and 15, Tigert was able to lead each of the last five laps en route to a slim 0.028-second margin of victory. Tigert also beat Lowry on 600cc machines in the 650cc Superbike race, this time by a margin of more than 12 seconds. Lowry beat Tigert to the line in the Open Superbike race, edging the Honda rider by 0.277 seconds. Lowry also won the Open Superstock race and 600cc Superstock race. Fabrice Vilder took his Motorcycle Performance Services-backed Yamaha YZF-R6 to wins in 600cc Modified Production and Formula 2, while Jeff Stern notched wins in 750cc Modified Production and 750cc Superstock and Formula 40 Heavyweight on his Dunlop-shod, LP-backed Suzuki GSX-Rs. Andy Palmer took four victories on his West Coast GP Cycles-backed, Pirelli-shod Suzuki SV650, winning Formula Twins Lightweight, 550cc Superbike, Middleweight Twins and Solo GT-Light.
