Kenny Noyes Sixth in Barcelona Moto2 Tests American Kenny Noyes (Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas Racing) set the sixth fastest time today in the Moto2 tests on a cold track at the Circuit of Catalunya. Rain from the day before had left the track with virtually no rubber down and grip was sketchy as evidenced by numerous crashes. Noyes, at 1:49.9, was fastest in the morning session, a tenth quicker than Italian Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR) who sustained a broken collarbone in a crash near the end of the morning session. Several other riders went down, including Spaniard Alex Debon (AJO Motorsports) who also broke a collarbone. Noyes and team mate Joan Olive ended the session early in the afternoon when track temperatures began to drop, but both were pleased with the handling and stability of the MkIII version of the Promo-Harris chassis. With rain expected for tomorrow the team is packing up and moving to the new Motorland Circuit for more testing on Saturday and Sunday. Noyes summed up the Barcelona tests is follows: “We were cruising today at about 85% because the track was real cold. There were guys crashing everywhere. The grip just wasn’t there. But we got in a couple of hours on good work in the morning when the sun was out. The track was slow because of the low temperature and because there was no rubber down after the rain, but it was good for the team to know that our feedback from the earlier tests is starting to pay off. My feeling is that with normal track temperature and some rubber down we’d be over 2 seconds faster, which is about right. Anyway, we are all gonna get faster and a lot is gonna depend on the state of tune of the official Honda engines that we will not get until the official IRTA tests. When the temperatures started to drop in the afternoon, we backed off a bit and worked on running a steady pace in the 50s to try and get a feel for how the bike will be when the tires start to wear. So far so good! I love this bike.” Best time was credited to Japan’s Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag.CIP) in 1:49.4 with first nine riders separated by less than a second.
