Tommy Hayden is excited that his deal as a fill-in rider for Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha’s injured Garrett Gerloff has been extended out to cover the remainder of the 2012 AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike season, and he hopes that the relief the new deal has brought combined with his past success at Barber Motorsports Park could add up to his first win of the season. “I’m excited,” said Hayden, who is currently fourth in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship point standings. “Now I feel like I can focus on my riding and not think about some other things as much, distractions of what’s going to happen next and things like that. Obviously, it’s a good opportunity for me. I appreciate the deal that Yamaha has given me, and I want to make the most of it. “I think this weekend should be pretty good for me,” continued Hayden, who has won four times at Barber Motorsports Park during his career. “I think some of the other tracks I’ve done pretty good at and some of those types of corners I felt I was good at [during] the first part of the year, this track has a lot of those. I’ve won a lot here. I’m fast here. I’ve done well here the last two years. I would say it’s probably one of my better chances to get a win or two.” Hayden will also begin running his familiar number 22 this weekend, instead of the number 8 originally assigned to Gerloff’s entry that he has been competing with thus far in 2012. “To be able to switch over and go back to my number 22 was icing on the cake, really,” said Hayden.
