Tommy Hayden took the AMA Supersport pole position during qualifying Saturday at Infineon Raceway with a new lap record time of 1:37.877 on his factory Kawasaki ZX-6RR. Not only was Hayden’s time good enough for a new lap record, it would have put him third on the Superstock (1000cc) grid. In fact, Hayden went 0.8-second faster on his 600cc machine than he did on his 1000cc bike. Yamaha teammates Jason DiSalvo, Jamie Hacking and Aaron Gobert earned the second, third and fourth grid spots, respectively, during the windy afternoon session.
