Tony Storniolo Wins CCS Unlimited Grand Prix At Blackhawk Farms Raceway

A morning rain shower made varying conditions for the Championship Cup Series’ (CCS) second round of the Midwest region this past Sunday May 20th. Racers took to the 1.95 mile, seven turn course of Blackhawk Farms Raceway, in South Beloit Illinois to showcase their adaptability. The day started under full rain conditions, but when the rain stopped the track surface dried slowly and racers started to switch from rain tires to race slicks. Tense racing ensued and saw numerous victors throughout the day’s events.

In the Unlimited category, Expert racers Tony Storniolo, Brian Filipiak and Zachary Schumacher all took wins on their Pirelli-shod machines. Veteran club racer Tom Girard put down the fastest lap of the day with at 1:11.150 en route to multiple podiums finishes on his Pirelli mounted ZX-10R. In the Amateur ranks, Michael Butler was the one to beat turning the fastest Amateur lap time of the day at 1:14.928 and winning three races.

In the 600cc races experts Jody Barry, Peter Bernacchi, David Collins, and Josh Rom, all took home wins on their respective middleweight equipment. Amateurs Zach Butler, Kevin Hu, Nicholas Johnson, and Jacob Van Ryzin each stood on the top step of the podium throughout the day.

The lightweight division was split between Experts Anthony Lambert on his FZ-07, and Jared Herbig riding a SV650, each winning multiple races on Bridgestone tires. The ultralight races where a great display of youthful talent between Jody Barry on his Pirelli backed Ninja 300 and Nate Minster on his Dunlop equipped YZF-R3.

The next round of CCS Midwest region will be held in conjunction with Central Roadracing Association (CRA) at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota on June 16-17. This will be a twin sprints event with a two full days of racing Saturday and Sunday.

The American Sportbike Racing Association (ASRA) is the parent organization to the Championship Cup Series (CCS), the largest Amateur motorcycle road racing organization in the United States issuing over 2800 licenses per year. ASRA promotes eight AMA sanctioned Sprint Series and seven AMA sanctioned Team Challenge road racing events for 2018. The CCS Series sanctions 40 events at popular tracks around the United States, including Daytona International Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Homestead Miami Speedway, Road America, New Jersey Motorsports Park and Virginia International Raceway among other fine venues. In 2018 ASRA and CCS will provide riders with access to millions of dollars of sponsorship awards through participation in its sanctioned events.
