Jeremy Toye took his second straight win in the $150,000 WSMC Toyota 200 race at Willow Springs International Raceway Sunday, easing to an 18-second win over World Superbike regular Jakub “Kuba” Smrz, with Willow Springs Motorcycle Club regular competitor Jason Curtis third. Toye, on a DSR Suzuki GSX-R1000 tuned by Lee’s Cycles, led comfortably after former AMA Superbike rider Jason Pridmore, running for the first time since last season, broke while leading. But after a red flag caused by a burning motorcycle on the track interrupted the event, Toye and Smrz, racing a Suzuki GSX-R1000 for Vincent Haskovec’s Czecker Hypercycle, wound up dicing for the lead. Tires would determine the outcome of the event. After another red flag, Smrz had no more race tires and was forced to try a different rear tire and adjust the suspension to compensate. The changes did not work, with Smrz running into handling difficulties, and Toye pulled away to his second straight win in the Toyota 200. Toye won $50,000. Smrz, on his first visit to Willow Springs, took home $30,000 for his second-place finish, while Curtis also got caught out by tire issues and nursed his bike home to third and $10,000. Rich Oliver, who was attempting to complete both the Roadracing World 250/50 and the Toyota 200, suffered an engine failure and completed only 25 laps of the Toyota 200. Willow Springs regular Jeff Stern was the only other finisher on the lead lap, finishing more than a minute back from Toye.
