Two motorcyclists collided on the front straight during an open track day at La Junta Raceway in southeastern Colorado Sunday. The rider who survived the accident is MRA, ASMA and AMA member Gene Bazyl, 22, of Louisville, Colorado, who remains in serious condition. The other rider, Aaron Aikin, 25, of Thorton, Colorado, died from his injuries at the hospital. Early reports are that Aiken, in his first time on a racetrack, was headed perpendicular to the direction of traffic at the time of the collision; he may have missed the normal track exit and attempted to enter the paddock at the wrong location. The track day, run by the racetrack, did not have any cornerworkers or ambulance crews on site.
