The 2009 AMA Pro road racing Championship will visit all of the series’ traditional venues and two new tracks may be added to the schedule, pending the evaluation of a rider safety committee that may be headed by Vincent Haskovec. AMA Pro Racing/Daytona Motorsports Group (DMG) boss Roger Edmondson told Roadracingworld.com Monday that personnel representing Daytona International Speedway, Road Atlanta, Barber Motorsports Park, Infineon Raceway, Road America, Auto Club Speedway, Mid-Ohio and VIRginia International Raceway have either signed a “letter of intent” or shook hands that they intend to host an AMA Pro road race in 2009. “So in short, all of last year’s promoters have given us a commitment,” said Edmondson, “and at Laguna Seca [September 27-28] we will announce the dates, contracts will be signed and we will be ready to announce the dates.” In addition, it is a “high probability” that there will be “some AMA activity” at Miller Motorsports Park during its Superbike World Championship race and at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during its MotoGP event. There are no plans for any AMA race activity during the 2009 MotoGP event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “And pending approval by the Safety Committee, there’s a potential to add Heartland Park Topeka and New Jersey Motorsports Park, in Millville, New Jersey,” said Edmondson. “Once the season’s over and we can organize it, we’re going to try to get a rider safety committee there to put some time in at both facilities and see what we need to do to make it work.”
