Fountain, CO – As in the past few years, the MRA concluded its race season on the short, 1.3 mile infield track at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Ryan Burke had already claimed MRA’s #1 plate for 2016 by winning Race of the Rockies on the previous round. That left Ricky Orlando and Dan Turner to fight it out for the #2 spot. Going into the weekend, Orlando led Turner by 11 points, which meant that Turner needed to finish a couple spots in front of Orlando to get #2. Before the race, Turner had mentioned that he knew he had a target on his back with respect to Orlando. Turner had to be in top form.

Burke got the holeshot from the pole and led the field onto the back straight. The first piece of drama unfolded when Burke washed out the front end and lowsided entering turn 3. Later, Kathy Burke said that there probably wasn’t enough heat in the front tire which is why it let go under braking. With that, Turner took the lead with Orlando giving chase.

At the half way point, Turner and Orlando had separated themselves from the field and had settled into consistent lap times right around the 58 second mark. By that time it was clear that nobody was going to come to Turner’s assistance in dealing with Orlando. During the final few laps Orlando knocked off a couple of high 57’s in an effort to catch Turner but it wasn’t enough and Orlando finished 0.125 seconds adrift, still claiming #2 for 2016. A hard charging Geoff Snyder got his first Race of the Rockies podium finish rounding out the top 3 in the GTO class.

Dan Turner is sponsored by Wild Cheetah Racing, Tri-City Cycles, Dunlop, EBC, Silkolene, Air Tech, Regina, Penske, STM Suspension, Tucker Rocky, Vickery Motorsports, Rex & Adam. Ricky Orlando is sponsored by Rocky Mountain Kawasaki, Dunlop, Hindle, EBC, Arai, Bel-Ray, Kyle Racing, and Chris Koster. Geoff Snyder is sponsored by Jeanine Snyder Wealth Management Advisor – Northwestern Mutual, Quikcycles, Sol Performance/Pirelli, Vortex Racing, Galfer USA, AXO, Bell Helmets, Motonation, Sidi boots, AGV Leathers, Jim Vick, and Apex Sports.

In Race of the Rockies GTU, Shannon Moham had all but clinched the top spot going into the race with a 50-point lead. Moham led the GTU class from the start running as high as 3rd overall. Moham took the Race of the Rockies GTU win and class championship, which was only one of many he claimed this weekend. Brian Dobrowolski got a fantastic start and ran 5th on the track for a handful of laps only getting bettered by a few GTO competitors. Evan Cordonier came from the back of the field with blistering fast lap times and almost chased down Dobrowolski, missing out on second place by 0.227 seconds.

As impressive as Moham was in Race of the Rockies GTU, that was but one of 11 class championships Shannon took home for the year. At the start of the weekend, Moham already had four championships sewn up so there certainly was work to do. With an almost constant presence on the track and a pit crew consisting of his family and good friend Brandon, Moham was able to demolish the championship hopes of anyone who was unlucky enough to share the starting grid. The sum total of Moham’s accomplishments include claiming ownership of Heavyweight Endurance, Lightweight Endurance, Heavyweight Superbike, Heavyweight Supersport, Lightweight Grand Prix, Modern Vintage GTU, Middleweight Superbike, Middleweight Supersport, Race of the Rockies GTU, Supertwins GTU, and Clubman. Also, of the 22 class track lap records Moham holds with the MRA, 6 of them were established this year en route to these championships.

Shannon Moham is sponsored by Nordic Nursing, Dunlop Tires, Race Tech Suspension, Woodcraft CFM, K&N Performance, K&N Filters, Vortex Racing, GPR Dampers, Lockhart Phillips, World Wide bearings, Vickery Motorsports, Motors by Rex, Renegade race fuels, Pit Bull stands, FMF exhausts, Denver n Dakota, Segren’s nectar, MOM, AMPED toy haulers by evergreen, and Falicon crankshafts. Brian Dobrowolski is sponsored by Bishop Plumbing, Dobrowolski Motorsports, Dunlop, Suzuki, John Bennett, trainer. Evan Cordonier is sponsored by Cordonier MotoSports, Campbell Chiropractic, Northeast Chiropractic Center, MrTaxFree.com, Dainese, AGV, Sol Performance Pirelli, Woodcraft, STAR Motorcycle School, JP43 Training, G&G, Saint James Church, Quik Cycles, and MotionPro.

Finally, a number of class track records fell yet again at Pikes Peak International. David Absolon broke the 400 Production record with a 1:04.817, Jon Glaefke took away the Colorado Class record with a 1:02.265, Wyeth Jackson grabbed Formula 40 GTU at 59.562 and Ladies of the Rockies with a 59.980. Ryan Burke added Open Supersport, Open Superbike, and Open Endurance to his records with a 56.809, 56.396, 57.062 respectively. Geoff Cesmat debuted the SuperMoto class record at 1:03.651, while Evan Cordonier grabbed Middleweight Endurance with a 59.216. And last but not least, Shannon Moham set yet another class record for Lightweight Endurance with a 1:00.966.

The MRA championship series and SuperStreet program will return in 2016 with the first event being the new racers’ school. Check back at the MRA website for specific dates as they solidify. http://www.mra-racing.org/

MRA Racer Shannon Moham Brings Home 11 Class Championships for 2015

Pike’s Peak International Raceway, in Fountain, CO proved to be a beautiful venue for the MRA’s final race weekend of the 2015 season. Blue skies and warm temperatures brought spectators and racers alike, ready to wrap up the year for this close nit racing community. Shannon Moham, racing on his Yamaha R6 and his “Mighty” Suzuki SV650, was aiming to end his season by clinching 11 Class Championships. Could he pull it off?

Saturday started out with cool morning temps, but the track was hot with bikes and am practice. Moham didn’t race until after lunch, but he needed to win Heavyweight Supersport in order to bring home the Championship. And he delivered. With 3 back to back races, Middleweight Supersport, Lightweight Grand Prix and Heavyweight Supersport, Moham clinched all 3 Class Championships after 3 race wins!! With a short break before 2 back-to-back 30-minute Endurance races, Moham’s crew chief for the season, Brandon Johnson, filled the bikes with Renegade race fuel, made a few changes to his Race Tech suspension and checked tire pressures on his Dunlop tires. Moham has more than once attributed his race wins to both his Race Tech Suspension, Renegade Fuel and Dunlop tires. None of them failed, in what turned out to be an incredible end to the day. Moham brought home 2 more race wins to, again, clinch 2 more Class Championships in Lightweight and Heavyweight Endurance. The MRA’s “Marathon Man” had quite the race day with 5 total Race Wins and 5 Class Championships! What would Sunday bring?

Sunday morning temps were a bit warmer and the day would develop into some high temps for racers and spectators. Moham had 5 races to go for his 2015 race season. The question was, could he truly win 10 total races for the weekend and win 1O class Championships plus the overall points title? Many believe that is something that had never been done in the history of the MRA. Moham’s race day started with back-to-back races, Middleweight Superbike and Modern Vintage GTU. 2 wins, 2 more Class Championships. All before lunch. After a nice break and time to refuel both bikes and racer, the MRA’s premier Race of the Rockies took off. Moham was in 3rd overall after #1 plate Ryan Burke crashed in turn 3. Moham, on his 600, kept up with the liter bikes for quite some time before taking ques from his wife, who was signaling to him on the wall, that he might think about “slowing his pace”. Moham did just that but still came in 1st in ROR GTU, to win the Premier Race of the Rockies GTU Class Championship! On the podium, with his wife Segren, his daughters Denver and Dakota and his crew chief Brandon Johnson by his side, Moham took time to thank those who made his winning season a reality. Moham noted that he wouldn’t have had a season without Brandon, who took the place of his injured wife, as crew chief and right hand man. Moham also gave a big thanks to his amazing tire sponsor Dunlop, “for making the best tire out there”, to his suspension sponsor Race Tech, “for giving me awesome suspension and working with me all season to make it right to get me the podiums I needed to win”, to Rex his engine builder because, as Moham put it, “I’m hard on motors”. Moham also thanked Imperial Sportbikes, who pieced Moham’s bike back together after a devastating mid season crash that sent Moham to the operating room. Moham thanked his wife Segren and daughters Denver and Dakota for always supporting his dreams and being by his side the entire season.

After the premier Championship win, Moham ended his day with 2 more race wins in Supertwins GTU and Heavyweight Superbike for a grand total of 10 Race Wins. Moham also won the Clubman Championship for having the most points in the club. That brings the Moham Race Team, We Go Fast, Class Championship total to 11! 11 Class Championships for one MRA racer, Mr Shannon Moham. He definitely lived up to his MRA nickname, “Marathon Man”. He would like to take the time to thank his sponsors for an incredible season and notes that without their continual support throughout his season and throughout his racing career, none of this would be possible: Nordic Nursing, Dunlop Tires, Race Tech, Imperial Sport Bikes, Quick Cycle, Woodcraft, K&N, Motors by Rex, Motonation, Renegade Fuel, Armour Bodies, Vickery Motorsports, Rocky Mountain Photo, Lockhart Phillips, GPR Stabilizers, Galfer Brakes, Millenium, Falicon crankshafts, Vortex, Bazaaz, Carillo, Pit Bull, Evergreen Recreational, and last but not least, his Mom. Shannon would also like to recognize the MRA corner workers for their incredibly long hours and hard work, the ambulance crew at Western Ambulance for keeping everyone safe this year and to the MRA Board members for making the 2015 race season a great success!

Congratulations to all the Class Champions in the MRA and a big congrats to Shannon Moham for an amazing year with 11 Class Championships. We are looking forward to what excitement and challenges next year brings!!!

MRA Novice Tim Mayhew Claims 3 Class Championships for 2015

The MRA held its 7th and final round of the 2015 Colorado road racing season on September 18th & 19th at Pikes Peak International Raceway. For many, 2015 brought many triumphs, tribulations and lessons learned in an action packed season of high octane racing. Throughout the season many of the top racers in Colorado competed across the state for the title as one of the fastest riders in the region.

Among the novice ranks, rider #106 Tim Mayhew, quickly rose to the top and mounted a fierce battle among other top novice riders in a focused push for the championship. Despite several crippling mechanical issues and crashes throughout the year, Mayhew preserved and was crowned the Novice GTU, Novice GTO, and Amateur GTU MRA champion, sweeping 3 of his 4 race classes during 2015.

On Sunday September 19th Mayhew elected to join the expert racers in the last middleweight superbike race of the season. After starting at the back of the grid in 11th place Mayhew was able put on his best performance of the weekend and fight his way through several other riders. In the end, Mayhew finished his first ever expert race in 5th place.

“Overall, what an amazing year!” said Mayhew. “I am very privileged to be part of such an amazing organization. I would like to thank the MRA and the board of directors for putting on an amazing season and everybody that has been directly involved in my success. See everybody next year, with a fancy new set of white plates!”

Mayhew is sponsored by Paint Pals, Sol Performance/Pirelli, Speedin’ Motorsports, Spy, Galfer USA, Matrix Concepts, Progrip, GoPro, Vortex, and AGV Sport.
