Tooele County, UT – Salt Lake motorcycle roadracer Shane Turpin will battle for the top position and the coveted #1 plate at the final race of the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains race series at the new $90 million Miller Motorsports Park complex in Tooele, Utah. Turpin, an accomplished roadracer for 18 years, joined the Yamaha Motor France Endurance Racing Team in April 2002 for the LeMans France 24 hour Endurance Race and has won local and national titles in Florida, Utah, Colorado, California and Nevada. Other winnings include the National Heavyweight Supersport Championship for two consecutive years and the National Heavyweight Superbike Championship at the CCS Race of Champions in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1995. Facing stiff competition from internationally known riders, Turpin hopes to bring Utah’s first Miller Motorsports Park Masters of the Mountains championship home for the locals, and be crowned “King of the Mountain” and series points leader for the year. With a solid 28-point lead in the GTU class, Turpin’s biggest challenge will come from New Zealand-born Aaron Clark, who leads the GTO class by just 11 points. In the Open Superbike class, Turpin trails in third place by 22 points, but with 36 points awarded to the race winner, hopes of a three-race sweep is very much alive. Challenger Clark began roadracing in Australia on a Honda 250 GP bike. In 1999 he received a wildcard entry in the FIM Australian Grand Prix and in 1999 finished with a third place in the Australian 250 GP Roadracing Championship. Clark came to race in America in 2000, winning the Aprilia Cup National Championship and settling in Denver, Colorado.
