Pirelli’s two-day tire test began this morning under sunny skies at Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida. Planning to participate in the test are: Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas, Cory West and Blake Young; Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Gary Mason, Robertino Pietri and Chris Ulrich; Attack Kawasaki’s Chaz Davies and Steve Rapp; XPLOR/BMW Motorcycles of Atlanta’s Nate Kern; Ray-C’s Xtreme’s Taylor Knapp; Moto Uno Racing’s Nicky Moore; Vallely Racing’s David Hudson; Loikits Industries’ David Loikits; Richie Morris Racing Buell’s Clint Brotz and Shawn Higbee; and West Coast privateer Lenny Hale, who will contest the full AMA Championship on Yamahas in 2008. Michael Barnes, who has not signed with a team for 2008, told Roadracingworld.com Sunday that he would ride at the Pirelli test, probably with Vallely Racing. Higbee, who is also a test rider for Buell Motorcycle Company, has also brought a 2008 Buell 1125R streetbike fitted with a belly pan, a steering damper and a GPS data acquisition system to ride at the test. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki already has three of the new, 2008-model GSX-R600s, two set up as Supersport bikes and one converted into a Formula Xtreme racer for Martin Cardenas. Pirelli representatives said their test would be focused on slick tires, 17-inch Superstock tires and 17- and 16.5-inch Formula Xtreme tires. Pirelli also has some new DOT-labeled tires to evaluate.
