NASH AND PASCARELLA TO CONTEST AMA SUPERSPORT FOR LTD RACING Marietta, Georgia (February 9, 2009) — Racers Huntley Nash and Joey Pascarella will contest the 2009 AMA Pro Racing SuperSport East division for LTD Racing. Both will ride Yamaha R6 machines prepared by Chris Birkle of Racing Sport Services. Jason Parker will be the team crew chief. Nash and Pascarella are two talented young racers eager to make their mark on the US racing scene. Both participated in the Red Bull AMA US Rookies Cup in 2007 and had been selected to race in the series once again before the 2009 Rookies Cup was canceled in January. The team name, LTD Racing, stands for “Living the dream.” “Joey and I were both looking forward to racing the Rookies Cup again this season, but unfortunately it was called off,” said Nash. “At first, we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to race at all this year but we really wanted to be out there improving after we both did well in the Rookies Cup last year. We didn’t want to lose any of the momentum, so we decided to do our best to get a ride for ’09. We looked at joining up with a team but we were able to put together what we think is a very competitive package. Our dads helped us make the best choices and we’re excited about out chances this year.” “We’re both really excited we are going to be able to race this year on some fast, new bikes in an exciting class,” said Pascarella. “It should be a lot of fun racing against some quick racers close to our own ages and we expect to do very well. We’ve been training hard all winter and are ready to get to Daytona and get the bikes set up and start racing.” Pascarella and Nash became good friends last season and thought it would be best to combine their efforts to put together a team for 2009. “We’re a lot alike but in some ways we’re really different, but we’re both good friends who like to train together. On the track, we both want to beat each other and I’m looking forward to seeing how we both do against some tough competition,” said Joey. Pascarella, from Vacaville, California, finished an impressive seventh in the 2008 Red Bull Rookies Cup. He’s known for his aggressive and fast riding style he developed motcrossing and racing Supermoto. His performance in 2008 marked him as one of the most talented young American racers on the asphalt, too. “Last year was really good for me in roadracing and I’m really comfortable on the pavement now,” said Pascarella, 16 years old. “Even when I have been on the Supermoto bike, I feel more comfortable on the paved sections now. I’m still learning every time I get on the bike and I want to keep up the progress. I’ve been training hard all winter and even though this is a lot of fun, it is also serious business and I’m looking forward to doing my best this year.” Nash, from Marietta, Georgia, finished tenth in the Rookies Cup last year in what was essentially his first full season in racing. He showed flashes along the way and his memorable Road Atlanta race was the season highlight. Huntley needed to make up a points deficit to qualify for the Riders Cup team and did so in a spirited race that featured an exciting three-way fight for position. “I had ridden track days and entered a few club races but last year was a real eye opener for me,” said Nash, 16 years old. “For me, I found out that this was my dream, to be a professional roadracer. The more I race, the more it drives me to work harder and do whatever it takes to make it to the top. I think racing a 600 this year will suit me, too. I’ve ridden the 600 some in the offseason and I think it fits me better and I feel more comfortable and confident on it. My goal in the Rookies Cup for this season was to get to the front and win some races and that’s the same goal in SuperSport.” The Yamaha R6 machines Joey and Huntley will race this season are currently being prepped in the Atlanta area by veteran race bike builder Chris Birkle of Racing Sport Services. Birkle, who has prepared race bikes for racers like Mike Harth, Geoff May, and Matt Lynn in the past, said he likes the rules in the Super Sport class. “I think it’s good for AMA Pro Racing to have a true production class,” said Birkle. “It is a good format for young racers like Joey and Huntley. We have our bikes and are prepping them now. It will be the typical rush to get them ready for Daytona but we are excited about the upcoming season.” Both bikes will feature Ohlins suspension and the series control tires supplied by Dunlop. Jason Parker will serve as the team’s crew chief. Parker, with 15 seasons racing and wrenching experience, worked as Huntley’s mechanic last year. “Our ultimate goal is to get these kids to the next level and we are committed to do whatever it takes,” said Parker. “Huntley progressed so much last year in the U.S. Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup Series and I was looking forward to an even better year in that same series again. The second I heard that the program was cut, I knew what we had to do. The AMA Pro Racing SuperSport class was a perfect place to go race and let Huntley Nash’s and Joey Pascarella’s talent shine. Nash and I have built a solid mechanic-racer relationship and I am really excited about working with him and Pascarella this year.” AMA Pro Racing SuperSport features racers 16 to 21 on 600cc machines with a minimum of modifications. It is a new class for 2009 and is designed as an entry level series affordable for the next wave of upcoming talent to showcase their skills at National events. Racers are limited to three seasons in the class. Huntley (www.huntleynash.com) will use Alpinestars boots and leathers and Arai helmets. Joey (www.joeypascarella.com) will use Shift leathers, TCX boots, and Shoei helmets.
