Chris Ulrich gave once-in-a-lifetime experiences to a television sports anchor and a radio contest winner Thursday when he took them for rides around Barber Motorsports Park on his two-seat Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superstock racebike. “Unbelievable!” said Scott Griffin, Sports Anchor for CBS42 television in Birmingham. “That was maybe the most amazing experience of my life. I’ve driven around Talladega [Superspeedway] at 178 [mph] in a car, but that doesn’t even compare to 140 mph on a bike.” Griffin said he planned to air footage of his ride and an interview with Ulrich during several of his broadcasts over the weekend, beginning with 5:00 p.m. local time Thursday. Griffin, who also hosts a radio show on WSPZ AM 690 Sports Talk, also asked Ulrich to call into his radio show Friday morning. Primarily, the Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki two-seat racebike program is designed to educate local, general-interest media members about the sport of motorcycle road racing, according to Ulrich, but Zoom Motorsports (which manages Barber Motorsports Park) used it as a promotional tool, offering it as a contest prize on WJOX 100.5 FM Sports Talk. The winner of that contest was Denny Woodard, 41, of Hayden, Alabama. “I’ve driven a stock car at Atlanta [Motor Speedway] with the Richard Petty Driving Experience, but it doesn’t compare nothing to this. Chris was great, and I really enjoyed the ride. It was fantastic,” said Woodard. Asked if Ulrich had created a new motorcycle road racing fan, Woodard answered, “Yes, sir. Definitely. We’ll be back this weekend.”
