CMRA racer Chase Vivion may be the only person ever to be hit in the head by a flying GSX-R600 engine during a pickup-truck accident. Vivion suffered a broken C5 vertebrae and severe head trauma in the crash last Saturday, January 13. He made it out of Intensive Care on Wednesday, January 17 but remains hospitalized and is recovering. “I was on my way home, last mile to my house, I fell asleep and ran off the road,” said Vivion in a phone interview with Roadracingworld.com . “I had the motor in my passenger seat because it was raining. I didn’t want it to get wet, so I flipped and the motor hit me in the head a couple times and it ended up getting ejected out of the passenger seat. “I don’t remember it, but apparently I got out and walked around for a minute, and then I got back in the truck. I had wrapped my head with my jacket and was lying there waiting for somebody to come. About 15 minutes later, the cops and paramedics showed up. They took me to the Baylor Medical Center here in Dallas. “I basically scalped myself. And after I scalped myself, part of my arteries my return artery on my neck was severed in half. So they put me on a bunch of blood thinners to try and keep the blood flowing to my head. Fortunately for 22-year-old Vivion, things are starting to look up. “Everything’s on the up and up right now. I was able to walk today for the first time since Friday. But the whole front half of my head is bald,” laughed Vivion. “It’s basically like a mullet with a bald top.” Vivion will be getting a skin graft on his head next week.
