Justin Filice, the teenage son of three-time AMA 250cc Grand Prix Champion Jimmy Filice, was involved in a bizarre paddock accident after finishing 26th in the AMA Supersport race Thursday. Filice was returning to his family’s motorhome–riding a Street Magic scooter on a paved access road in the rider motorhome parking area–when a food service worker drove out of a dirt parking area onto the access road and hit Filice. The scooter ended up underneath the car, behind the left front wheel, the car high-centered with the wheel off the ground. Bystanders said that Filice bailed off the scooter just before impact and was not injured. The food service worker claimed she didn’t see Filice before pulling out in front of him. Young Filice today told Roadracingworld.com that he braked hard and was thrown left, away from the car, as it hit and ran over his scooter. “It was lucky I saw her coming because she never even slowed down,” Filice said. “She was going about 20 mph.” Filice was released from the Infield Care Center after being treated for abrasions. Now, here’s a press release Filice’s publicist issued prior to the race: The debut of Justin Filice at his 1st National AMA Road Race at Daytona International Speedway Modesto, Ca., – Justin Filice, son of four time 250 Daytona winner, Jimmy Filice, will be making his debut onboard a Honda CBR600RR this week at the Daytona International Speedway. Justin will be putting his skills to the test while competing in the 600 Supersport class on Thursday and then the Daytona 200 Formula Extreme class on Saturday. In the 600 Supersport class, Justin will be racing the likes of Tommy Hayden, Jamie Hacking and Josh Hayes. “I’m really excited about racing this class. It’s one of the most competitive classes in the series and I’m looking forward to the learning experience.” To race the Daytona 200 is something Justin has always dreamed of doing. His father’s best finish was 6th place. “This is a very difficult race because of the endurance you must have in order to finish,” says Justin. When looking at the paddock, you can see Justin and his team mean business. Having veteran mechanics, Ed Toomey and Dennis Zickrick onboard is certainly an advantage that others may not have. “It takes great skill and knowledge of our sport to be successful,” says Jimmy Filice.
