Miller Motorsports Park Up Next for Ben Young THORNBURY ONTARIO, CANADA May 24, 2012 – After missing the third round of the 2012 AMA Pro Road Racing season at Infineon Raceway, BYR/FOGI Racing’s Ben Young is eager to get back in the mix this weekend as AMA Pro Road Racing returns to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah for the BigM Weekend on May 26-28. Not only will this weekend highlight the best road racing in North America, AMA Pro Road Racing will share the spotlight with the stars of the Superbike World Championship as it makes it’s only stop in North America. This particular event schedule consists of single races for each of the AMA Pro Road Racing classes. Conveniently located just 25 minutes west of Salt Lake City, this event will feature a fantastic range of activities as part of The BigM Weekend, Utah’s Memorial Day tradition, mixing motorcycles, live music and a major military tribute. Although the young Scottish-Canadian was absent from the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona Sportbike grid at Infineon he kept himself busy training, and making additional improvements to his Scotbuild/Yamaha R6 as well as spending some time at a locally organized trackday at Calabogie Motorsports Park. Collingwood-based custom home builder and long time associate sponsor Scotbuild will be featured on Young’s #86 Yamaha R6 for not only Miller Motorsports Park’s BigM Weekend but also at the following weekend’s Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America. “Scotbuild has been a sponsor since my 125/250 days racing in the USGPRU and this seemed like the perfect opportunity for the team to show its appreciation with a new Scotbuild-themed livery designed by The Graphix Factory.” said FOGI Racing’s young apprentice. Young commented. “We were disappointed we missed Infineon but I can’t wait to get back out there at Miller Motorsports Park. The last time I was at Miller I was testing the Aprilia RS125 GP machine with Veloce Racing in 2010 for the Indy wildcard entry. I will know some of the track configuration we will be running for the Daytona Sportbike class which is a bonus. I am very confident we will run well and give the Scotbuild livery a well deserved showing.” Ben Young Racing (BYR) and the Fogi Racing Development Team would like to thank the following companies for their support; Scotbuild Developments, Arai Helmets, GP Tech LLC, Tim Hortons – Sudbury, K&N Filters, EBC Brakes, Arlen Ness Racing boots, Armour Bodies, BCL Motorsports Pit Kit, Vortex Racing, Akrapovic Exhaust Systems, RS Taichi Leathers, The Graphix Factory, Four Feathers Racing and The North American International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW. Contact Scott Young at 1-705-888-2759 or [email protected] for information on how your company can get ahead of the competition, enhance brand visibility and engage a loyal audience through the BYR/FOGI Racing team and Ben Young’s AMA Pro Road Racing program. More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Big Momentum: Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams On A Roll To BigM Weekend At Miller Motorsports Park Cypress, CA May 24, 2012 The Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams are traveling to the Salt Lake City area for the BigM Weekend at the 3.05-mile, 15-turn Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. MONSTER ENERGY/GRAVES/YAMAHA: HAYES & HERRIN Two-time reigning AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes already has three wins so far this season aboard his crossplane-crankshaft Yamaha YZF-R1, along with earning all three pole positions in as many events. He is currently just four points shy of the SuperBike Championship lead. Last year at Miller, Josh won the pole and led 14 of the 16 laps in an exciting three-way battle for the race win, but he ultimately finished second. Look for Josh to improve on that result and notch an important win in this year’s SuperBike race. Josh’s Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammate Josh Herrin won last year’s Daytona SportBike race at Miller, and he is currently in fourth place in his rookie SuperBike season aboard the #2 R1. Josh has already led a few races so far this season, so look for him up front at Miller and also contending for the win. YAMAHA EXTENDED SERVICE/GRAVES/YAMAHA: HAYDEN, BEAUBIER & GERLOFF In AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike competition, the Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha team of Tommy Hayden, Cameron Beaubier, and Garrett Gerloff will all be at Miller Motorsports Park. Tommy and Cameron will both be riding, while Garrett””who is still recuperating from the fractured femur he suffered at Daytona””will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs, and assist his team. Tommy is currently second in the Daytona SportBike championship points standings, and he knows the Miller circuit well. The veteran rider has been steadily moving up in the DSB rankings, and he’ll be looking to notch his first win of the season about the #8 Yamaha YZF-R6. Cameron, who rides the #6 R6, made a remarkable comeback at Infineon Raceway, after fracturing his kneecap in a non-racing incident just five weeks prior to that event. His third-place finish in DSB Race 1 was a serious gut-check for the talented, 19-year-old rider. He gave it his all in the race, and left nothing in reserve. As a result, and out of respect for his fellow riders, Cameron and his team decided to sit out Infineon’s DSB Race 2. They’ve regrouped for Miller, however, so look for Cameron to be fully fit and contending for the win. FOLLOW THE YAMAHA U.S. ROAD RACING TEAMS ON FACEBOOK Miller Motorsports Park is an especially exciting event for the Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams as AMA Pro Racing shares the stage with the F.I.M. World Superbike series, which will also be at Miller this weekend. For news, results, and other team info, be sure to check out Yamaha’s Facebook page. More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Points leader Cardenas loves wide-open road racing action at Utah track TOOELE, Utah (May 24) — Martin Cardenas likes to go fast on his GEICO Suzuki Daytona SportBike, as witnessed by his three victories and three No. 1 qualifier positions in the first three stops of the 2012 AMA Road Racing season. So it’s no surprise that the 29-year-old Colombian champion says Miller Motorsports Park is one of his favorite racetracks in the world. “I think this is the best racetrack for me,” Cardenas said of the 3.05-mile, 15-turn course. “And I am very excited to return for this weekend’s race. “I like to ride wide-open and you can really do that here. There are great straight-aways, the big turns are very high speed and even the sharper corners are middle to high speed, so you can get into a nice, fast flow. You don’t have that stop-and-go feeling like some of the other tracks. It suits my style very well.” The BigM Weekend schedule calls for just one, not the usual two, main events, so Cardenas knows there is no room for error. Although he’s led the GoPro Daytona SportBike championship points after four of the first five races, he gave away some of his cushion when he crashed out of the last race earlier this month in Sonoma, Calif. His lead over Tommy Hayden was ultimately cut to 12 points. “Sure, I want to rebuild the lead we had,” Cardenas said. “We have just one chance this weekend to do that so we want to be prepared. I have great confidence in my team and my bikes. “I was a little sore after the crash and could feel it in my muscles for a few days but I am 100-percent fit now,” Cardenas said. “The guys replaced the frame and the front suspension on the bike that was damaged, but really both of the bikes we have are the same. That’s not always the case but this year we are lucky in that regard. I have ridden them both this year multiple times. It will not be a factor. “We will continue to race as we have all year. It’s been a great start and there’s no reason to think we won’t have another good outing. I’m excited to see the World Superbike guys race and also to show them what we do in our class.” Action begins for Cardenas with a practice session at 8:55 a.m., Saturday, with the first qualifying round scheduled for 1:30 p.m. later that day. The second qualifying session, which will set the field, begins at 8:40 a.m., Sunday, with the 16-lap main event kicking off at 4:10 p.m. The race will be shown on SPEED TV. More, from a press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: TOOELE, Utah (May 24, 2012) – With Blake Young (Yoshimura Racing Suzuki) leading the AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike point standings, AMA Pro Road Racing heads to Miller Motorsports Park for the BigM Weekend presented by Lucas Oil, a Memorial Day tradition mixing motorcycles, music and military. This weekend will be the Series’ fifth trip to Tooele, Utah, and Suzuki has earned victory in all but one of the seven AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike races held at the facility. Each of AMA Pro Road Racing four classes will be featured in single race finals on the 3.05-mile natural terrain road course. Young was able to grab a four point lead over two-time and defending AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes (Monster Energy Graves Yamaha) following a rare miscue by the veteran in Race 2 at Infineon Raceway earlier this month. The Wisconsin, who leads Hayes 166-162 in the points, won at Miller last year and hopes to repeat this weekend to build on his points gap and bring him that much closer to taking home his first AMA Pro Championship. Third in the Championship chase is Roger Hayden (National Guard Jordan Suzuki) with 114. Hayden earned the highest AMA Pro SuperBike finish of his career last round with a second-place result in Race 2. The rest of the top ten is a tightly-contested group of seven riders, and six manufacturers, separated by just 18 points. Leading that pack is Hayes’ AMA Pro SuperBike freshman teammate Josh Herrin (Monster Energy Graves Yamaha) with 84 markers, followed by Larry Pegram (Foremost Insurance Pegram BMW), Geoff May (Team Amsoil/Hero EBR), Steve Rapp (Attack Performance Kawasaki), Danny Eslick (Hero Moto Corp. EBR), Chris Fillmore (Team HMC KTM) and Chris Clark (Yoshimura Racing Suzuki). So far in 2012, Hayes has claimed all but one bonus point, claiming pole at each round and leading the most laps in all but the most recent race final. The Mississippian also took pole position at Miller last year, besting closest rival Young’s effort in qualifying with a time of 1:50.401. Including Young, five riders in the AMA Pro SuperBike top ten have wins to their credit at Miller Motorsports Park. Herrin and Rapp took the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike and AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series races last year, respectively, May won in 2008 in AMA Superstock and Hayes took the inaugural AMA Formula Xtreme race in 2006. The BigM Weekend presented by Lucas Oil at Miller Motorsports Park will take place Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike will take to the track for the first practice session Saturday, May 26 at 9:50 a.m. and will be featured in a 16-lap race on Monday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m. local time. SPEED will broadcast the race in a same-day delayed broadcast scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT. AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Point Standings (After Round 3): 1. Blake Young (Waunakee, WI) – 166; 2. Josh Hayes (Gulfport, MS) – 162; 3. Roger Hayden (Owensboro, KY) – 114; 4. Josh Herrin (Glendale, CA) – 84; 5. Larry Pegram (Hebron, OH) – 82; 6. Geoff May (Gainesville, GA) – 77; 7. Steve Rapp (Hawthorne, CA) – 73; 8. Danny Eslick (Broken Arrow, OK) – 71; 9. Chris Fillmore (Oxford, MI) – 66; 10. Chris Clark (Las Vegas, NV) – 66. AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike It’s no shock that the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike action has been fast and furious in 2012. In Round 3 at Infineon Raceway, Martin Cardenas (GEICO Suzuki) and Jason DiSalvo (Latus Motors Racing Triumph) split the wins in what were difficult races with hot paces. Cardenas’ win was the Colombian’s 20th AMA Pro victory and 19th in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class, the record for most wins in the class, and DiSalvo’s victory was the first GoPro Daytona SportBike win for the British marque. The AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship tightened up with Cardenas’ crash in Race 2 last round. Heading to Miller Motorsports Park, Tommy Hayden (Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha) trails Cardenas by 12 markers, 113-101. Cardenas’ teammate Dane Westby (M4 Lucas Oil Suzuki) lurks just a few points behind with 94 in what has been a solid and consistent season for the Oklahoman up to this point. AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike veteran Hayden returns again this weekend as a substitute for Garrett Gerloff. Teammate Cameron Beaubier (No. 6 Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha YZF-R6) has taken two podium finishes in two starts this season and hopes to return healthy and at the front of the pack at Miller Motorsports Park. DAYTONA® 200 winner Joey Pascarella (Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki) ran an impeccable race at Daytona International Speedway in March and has been picked up for the remainder of the 2012 season by the always impressive Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki team. Veteran Jake Zemke (No. 98 Ducshop Racing Ducati 848) has led at times this season and is knocking on the door for a podium finish. The Californian is the active rider with the most wins at Miller Motorsports Park, with victories to his credit in AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike (2006), AMA SuperSport (2008) and AMA Formula Xtreme (2008). The AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike division will contest a 16-lap race final Sunday, May 27 at 4:10 p.m. local time. SPEED will broadcast flag-to-flag coverage of the race starting 20 minutes after the green flag flies at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Point Standings (After Round 3): 1. Martin Cardenas (Medellin, Colombia) – 113; 2. Tommy Hayden (Owensboro, KY) – 101; 3. Dane Westby (Tulsa, OK) – 94; 4. Joey Pascarella (Vacaville, CA) – 88; 5. Jason DiSalvo (Batavia, NY) – 86; 6. Jake Zemke (Paso Robles, CA) – 75; 7. Bobby Fong (Stockton, CA) – 66; 8. JD Beach (Philpot, KY) – 65; 9. Cory West (Eureka Springs, AR) – 60; 10. Michael Beck (Simi Valley, CA) – 48. AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport, the AMA Pro Road Racing class for up-and-coming riders and fast local club racers, returns to a wide-open circuit that offers a much different challenge than previous rounds. Leading the Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport charge heading to Miller Motorsports Park, defending series champ James Rispoli (Celtic Racing/Orient Express Racing Suzuki) has finished no lower than fourth in six starts this year. The New Yorker leads Elena Myers (Suzuki Scoop Fans Sportbiketrackgear.com M4 Suzuki) in the West Division point standings 107-63. Hayden Gillim (RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha), who started his sophomore SuperSport season with an upstart team, sits two points behind Myers in the West Division standings. Last year’s third-place finisher at Miller, Travis Ohge (Meen Motorsports/ Graves Motorsports Yamaha) is back with a new team in 2012. Several Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport East Division riders are likely to challenge for wins in Utah but won’t be taking any points home with them. Jake Lewis (Riders Discount/Vesrah Suzuki) leads the East Division standings and has already taken home a win in what can only be described as an impressive start to the young rider’s professional racing career. Dustin Dominguez (Latus Motors Racing Triumph) took home a victory for the British marque in the opening race at Infineon Raceway earlier this month and followed that up with a second place result in Race 2. Gillim’s teammate Tomas Puerta (RoadRace Factory Yamaha) has come into his own as of late, finishing behind Dominguez in Race 2 at Infineon to grab the second podium this season for the fledgling team. Last year’s Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race was won by Corey Alexander (National Guard/ Fairhills Group/ Celtic Racing Suzuki), who is sure to be one of the frontrunners again this year. The 13-lap race for the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport division will be the first race of the weekend, set to go green at 1:35 p.m. local time on Sunday, May 27. AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport West Division Point Standings (After Round 3): 1. James Rispoli (Attica, NY) – 107; 2. Elena Myers (Discovery Bay, CA) – 63; 3. Hayden Gillim (Owensboro, KY) – 61; 4. Travis Ohge (Aurora, OR) – 42; 5. Garrett Willis (Loomis, CA) – 29; 6. Colter Dimick (Ft. Collins, CO) – 25; 7. Sebastiao Ferreira (Paravna, Brazil) – 22; 8. Rocco Horvath (Chandler, AZ) – 17; 9. Tyler Linders (Mission Viejo, CA) – 16; 10. Wyatt Farris (Calistoga, CA) – 15. AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Three races into the 2012 AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series, three different men have stood atop the podium – Kyle Wyman (No. 33 KLR Group/Vesrah Racing Harley-Davidson XR1200), Tyler O’Hara (No. 29 Bartel’s Harley-Davidson XR1200), and Michael Barnes (No. 34 Bartel’s Harley-Davidson XR1200). O’Hara, whose first AMA Pro victory came last year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, leads Barnes in the points 83-77. Wyman sits three points back with 74. Of the active competitors, Barnes was the top finisher in last year’s event with a fourth-place result. Barnes clinched his first victory in over a decade on the final lap of the Vance & Hines XR1200 Series race at Infineon Raceway earlier this month. His success last year at Miller Motorsports Park combined with the momentum he has from his win last round are sure to put him in contention for a top podium spot this weekend. Teammate O’Hara will race to keep his top spot in the point standings and improve on last year’s sixth place result in Utah. Last year Wyman finished in eighth position here and will need a better race to find his familiar spot on this weekend’s podium. With only nine points and milliseconds per race separating these three riders, expect to see another spectacular finish when the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series riders take to the track for their 8-lap race final, scheduled for Monday, May 28 at 1:20 p.m. local time. AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Point Standings (After Round 3): 1. Tyler OHara (Petaluma, CA) – 83; 2. Michael Barnes (Boca Raton, FL) – 77; 3. Kyle Wyman (Macedon, NY) – 74; 4. Travis Wyman (Macedon, NY) – 47; 5. Michael Corbino (Sarasota, FL) – 43; 6. David Estok (Daytona Beach, FL) – 41; 7. Gerry Signorelli (Colorado Springs, CO) – 38; 8. Darren James (Deep Cove, Canada) – 37; 9. Josh Chisum (Bakersfield, CA) – 36; 10. Shane Narbonne (Tyngsboro) – 33. More, from a press release issued by Celtic Racing/Orient Express: Celtic Racing Carries Momentum And Energy To Big M Weekend At Miller The upcoming round of the 2012 AMA Pro Road Racing SuperSport Championship brings the Celtic Racing team to Miller Motorsports Park, located outside of Salt Lake City, Utah in Tooele. Celtic Orient Express Racing’s James Rispoli will ride his #1 Suzuki GSX-R 600 with a healthy 44 point lead in the SuperSport West series. Rispoli has been on a very consistent streak of Pole positions, race wins, and podium finishes since the season opened at Daytona, with three victories to his credit so far. Corey Alexander will ride his #5 National Guard Fairhills Group Suzuki GSX-R 600 as the returning Miller event winner, having secured a convincing victory last year in treacherous wet conditions where his margin of victory was over 18 seconds! Alexander will contest the event at Miller after two weeks of serious training, his recent 18th birthday, and some time to recover from injuries sustained at the previous two rounds. Celtic Orient Express Racing’s James Rispoli has been hard at work preparing for Miller, and said “Going into the Big M feels great, the momentum we have started with the Celtic Racing team and the crew is great. My training has been stepped up to another level so I feel amazing! With the limited track time at Miller, we are going to have to get to work quickly, so just getting mentally prepared to get rolling right out of the gate. Follow me on twitter for the latest updates throughout the weekend (@JamesRispoli). Corey Alexander is excited to return to the track where he scored his first professional series win, stating “Having two weeks off has given me some time to heal and get back to training. I feel good and I’m confident going into this weekend. I love the track at Miller and I’m to the point where I just want to get my National Guard Fairhills Group GSX-R 600 back up to the front where we should and need to be. With that said, It’s also a really exciting weekend for me to be representing the National Guard and our country as a whole. I look forward to bringing some good results as a showing of my support and appreciation for people in the service!” Follow Corey’s twitter feed for more updates (@Corey5Alexander). Miller Motorsports Park was added to the AMA Pro Road Racing schedule for the 2011 season, so most riders do not have many laps on the track. Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah will host the race on Memorial Day Monday. Althea Racing team riders Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano come to the American track with different view point. Checa has been very successful here in the past, with 2 double wins and a second place finish in his last 4 visits, while this will mark Giugliano’s first appearance at the American track. Checa spoke about his love for the circuit as well as his disappointing Donington finish. “I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at Miller, the people, the mountains, the layout of the track itself. The track suits my riding style and I have many great memories thanks to the results I’ve obtained there these last years. At Donington, we lost ground in the classification and so definitely need a strong weekend now.” Giugliano also spoke about his disappointing Donington finish and his hopes for the race on Sunday. “Miller Motorsports Park will be a totally new track for me. I can’t wait to see it, as I’ve heard a lot of good things and know that Carlos loves racing there. I was disappointed with the Donington results, of course, and want to make up for things at Salt Lake. I’ll be giving it my all, to take as many points as possible and improve my championship position.” World Supermoto The 2012 World Supermoto Championship series continues this weekend in Palermo, Italy for the Grand Prix of Sicily Supermoto. Mid-corner vibration both with open and closed throttle at the Navarra round last month sent the team to Aragon and to Albacete for tests. Crewchief George Vukmanovich and the rest of the Palmetto team used data acquisition recordings to pinpoint the problem and the team is confident that the bike will now let Kenny make the next step after back-to-back podium finishes. Kenny Noyes: “The rain masked our problems a bit in Jerez and Navarra and we were able to get a lot of points, but now we have the bike working and I´ll be able to fight for a win. Motorland is a very demanding circuit and you need to have the bike working so that you can accelerate and brake with the bike well leaned over. You have got to have the balance and settings right. We worked hard between races and now it seems we have the bike working so I can get on the gas early.
