Graves Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom held off Erion Racing Honda’s Jake Zemke and his own teammate Josh Herrin to win the Pro Honda Oils AMA Supersport race Sunday at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California. Herrin, the pole-sitter, got the initial holeshot, but the race was stopped before the first lap was completed. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas crashed entering Turn Five and his body collided with Tommy Hayden’s GSX-R600 at high speed, causing Hayden to also crash. Both riders were transported to a local hospital. According to their teams, Cardenas suffered a broken left femur and Hayden suffered a broken ankle. The race was re-started for 16 laps, and Bostrom, Herrin and Zemke almost immediately turned it into a three-rider contest. In the end, it was Bostrom who came out on top (for the second time in 2008), 0.079-second ahead of Zemke, who officially led the most laps of the race. Herrin ran wide in the closing stages and finished 4.869 seconds back in third.
