Attard, 131 points More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: TOP FIVE FOR GEOFF MAY AT LAGUNA SECA Team M4 EMGO Suzuki picked up a top-five result in their first of two races this weekend at the combined AMA/MotoGP event at Laguna Seca. Geoff May scored a fifth-place finish aboard the team’s Pirelli-shod GSX-R600 despite contending with less than perfect circumstances. After showing his speed on Friday by posting the fastest lap of the morning session and then backing that up with a second-ranked qualifying run, May stormed into the lead at the opening of the 17-lap final. The Georgian managed to hold the lead for the race’s first three laps but was unable to hold his potentially race-winning pace for much longer. May rallied and earned fifth. The determined rider picked up another strong result for the team. Fresh off his first podium finish in the Supersport class, Colombian Martin Cardenas overcame his third-row starting position to pick his way to seventh in the end. Californian Michael Beck improved dramatically on his grid position, taking a top 15 result after starting from 24th. At the end of the day Team M4 EMGO Suzuki Crew Chief Keith Perry said, “We were a little disappointed. Fifth is great, but we felt Geoff had the set-up and the pace to run up front, and he did for a number of laps. I don’t know if it was the temperature difference, but we encountered some problems. Geoff did everything he could. I was proud to see him hang in there and get fifth. “Martin had a very good race considering it was the first time he had ever been to Laguna Seca. He was disappointed in his start and made some mistakes early, otherwise he felt he could have been with the front group. Still, not a bad effort at all. “We’re still trying to build Michael’s confidence back up from some things that happened early in the season. He had a good race today, but he’s not satisfied. He’s a better rider than the results are showing right now and we need to find a few little things and he’ll be back up where he needs to be. A combination of little things can make a big difference.” On Sunday Geoff will race in the AMA Superbike class aboard his Superstock-spec machine. He impressed again today aboard his GSX-R1000, posting the eighth best lap in practice at 1:25.608 and is aiming for another top-five finish tomorrow.
