Celtic Racing / Fast By Ferracci Previews West Coast Moto Jam New York, NY: Team Celtic Fast By Ferracci Racing’s PJ Jacobsen will be looking for redemption this weekend at Round #2 of the AMA Pro Road Racing series, which is being held at the scenic Infineon Raceway in Northern California, and is part of the West Coast Moto Jam weekend. The New York based racer has set some of the fastest lap times in numerous testing and warm up sessions, but with only one race in the books, young Jacobsen has yet to score the overall results that he knows he is capable of. The team has been preparing, and since Daytona, they have tested at both New Jersey Motorsports Park and Miller Motorsports Park, which was an official AMA Pro Racing test session. In addition, the Teams Technical director, Eraldo Ferracci, has been busy doing what he does best – working away on his in-house shop Dyno and looking for more horsepower. “Well, pretty much, we are ready to go. We just want to get out on the track and show what we are capable of, which is run up front.” says Barry Gileson, owner of Celtic Racing and a long time sponsor of PJ Jacobsen. “PJ has been training up a storm, and he is hungry, motivated, fit, and just ready go. We had some bad luck at the first round in Daytona, and with a few weeks off and between races, we are ready to show what we are capable of.” This will be Jacobsen’s second time competing at Infineon Raceway, and he will be mounted on the teams capable twin cylinder Ducati 848EVO machine. Practice and qualifying kicks off on Friday at 12pm, with racing on both Saturday and Sunday. If you are not able to make it out to the track, make sure to tune into the SPEED Network for the television highlights over the weekend. More, from a press release issued by Harley-Davidson: AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Returns to Action at Infineon AMA Pro Flat Track Points Leader Sammy Halbert To Make Road Race Debut Milwaukee (May 12, 2011) The AMA Pro Racing Vance & Hines XR1200 series returns to action this weekend after a nearly two-month layoff at Northern California’s Infineon Raceway for the West Coast Moto Jam May 14-15. Among the story lines for round two of the series is the professional road racing debut of flat track star Sammy Halbert, the current points leader in the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship. Halbert, who dominated the Flat Track season opener at Daytona Beach, FL in March by sweeping the short track double header, has posted strong finishes at the series’ DuQuoin, IL and Salinas, CA, rounds to maintain his points lead as the series heads into a month-long break before the start of the Twins season at the Springfield Mile on Memorial Day weekend. Halbert will keeping his racing skills sharp during the hiatus by entering his first professional road race aboard an XR1200 fielded by HOG Racing and the Harley Owners Group. To prepare for his XR1200 class debut, the Graham, WA, rider has attended several racing schools and track days to acquaint himself with the techniques of motorcycle road racing. “I know I’ll have some catching up to do, but I’m hoping once it’s race time, my competitive instincts will kick in and I’ll be able to keep up,” Halbert said. Halbert joins 16 other riders who will grid up this weekend race, including fellow flat tracker-turned-road racer Joe Kopp and Daytona race winner Kyle Wyman. Sunday’s 11-lap, 25-final kicks off at 12:30pm Pacific time. Infineon Race Entry List: Joe Kopp (Latus Motors Racing) Sammy Halbert (HOG Racing) Steve Rapp (Parts Unlimited) Josh Chisum (Troy Lee Designs) Michael Morgan (Python Exhaust) Michael Corbino (RMR/Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing) Chase McFarland (Latus Motors Racing) Tyler O’Hara (GPBikeParts.com) Kyle Wyman (RMR/Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing) Michael Barnes (Drag Specialties) Chris Fillmore (RMR/Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing) Michael Beck (J&P Cycles) Paul James (James Gang/Hoban Brothers/H-D of Appleton) Gerry Signorelli (Kuryakyn) Bradley Adams (Sport Rider Magazine) Pete Demas (Route One Racing) More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Defending race champion Eslick excited about Wine Country visit SONOMA, Calif. (May 12) — GEICO SportBike rider Danny Eslick loves California’s world renowned Wine Country, but not so much for the local product, that is unless he’s spraying it in the air after another victory at picturesque Infineon Raceway. The 24-year-old past series champion from central Oklahoma enters this weekend’s West Coast Moto Jam hoping to defend his 2010 title at the track and take another Sunday afternoon bath in the bubbly, a scenario he says could very well take place. “I’ve done pretty well here in the past,” Eslick said. “I’ve earned podium finishes several times at this track and I won here last year, so it’s definitely a place I get around pretty well. That always lifts your confidence heading into a racetrack.” Another one of the reasons Eslick loves trips to California is the rabid fan base of motorcycle enthusiasts that line the 2.3-mile natural road course tucked away in the Sonoma Valley. “It’s very cool to pull into the track and see all the fans and their bikes lined up around the facility,” Eslick said. “Californians love their motorcycles and they’ve always been great supporters of our team and our events. For a rider, it’s exciting to be around so many people that share their love of motorcycles and motorcycle racing.” It’s been two months since Eslick has ridden competitively as the season-opening Daytona 200 took place back on March 12. That race was going extremely well for Eslick as he led the pack at several points during the first 22 laps, but a suspect front tire resulted in him coming off his Richie Morris Racing Suzuki at 170 mph and by the time he was cleaned up and ready to re-enter the fray, organizers had red-flagged the race over tire safety concerns. “Daytona was definitely disappointing,” Eslick said. “Coming out of there with zero points was a bummer but it happens and I think as long as we put good races together in the next couple rounds we should be right back in the championship hunt. At least it happened early in the year so we’ve got time to make up the difference. “We’re all ready to get back out there. Our team actually did some testing in Utah a few weeks ago and got some stuff figured out. We definitely made progress so I’m looking forward to this weekend and hopefully leaving town with a lot of points.” The West Coast Moto Jam runs Friday-Sunday at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. Qualifying is scheduled for Friday with races on tap both Saturday and Sunday. Jeremiah Johnson (BE-EV.com, New Roc Harley-Davidson)
