Team Roadracingworld.com Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich rode his Pirelli-shod GSX-R1000 through a torrential rainstorm at Road America to claim the pole position for the AMA Superstock class. Ulrich swapped the top spot with Vesrah Suzuki’s Mark Junge before Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies put in a fast lap late in the session, but Ulrich kept going faster until he recorded a best time of 2:51.375 to take the second AMA pole position of his career. Spies, the current Superstock Championship point leader, ended up second-fastest with a 2:53.199, while Junge, a multi-time WERA National Challenge and National Endurance Champion, was third with a 2:53.983. Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May earned the final spot on the front row with a 2:54.369. Starting Sunday’s Superstock final from the second row will be Graves Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom (2:55.330), Jordan Suzuki’s Aaron Yates (2:55.896), Matsushima Suzuki’s Danny Eslick (2:56.253) and Yates’ teammate Jake Holden (2:57.555). Because conditions changed “significantly” between Group Two’s session (the soaked session with Ulrich) and Group One’s session (when it stopped raining), according to the the AMA rulebook Group Two riders will be placed on the grid ahead of Group One riders. KWS Millennium Suzuki’s John Haner (who is making his return to racing after breaking his foot at California Speedway in April) turned the fastest time in Group One with a 2:51.131 on his Dunlop-backed GSX-R1000. 2007 AMA Superstock Championship Road America Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin June 2, 2007 Qualifying Results (wet conditions): Group Two: 1.
