Carter, 110 More, from a press release issued by Pirelli: Cardenas Takes AMA FX Podium, Leading a Pirelli Sweep On the middle day of the Mid-Ohio AMA Superbike weekend, cool Columbian Martin Cardenas put his M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 on the Formula Xtreme (FX) podium in third place, after fighting amidst a close battle for the lead. Having led the early laps of the race, Cardenas’ plans for his Pirelli-shod Suzuki were interrupted when the race was red flagged on lap 11, and not restarted due to the race initially being started nearly two hours behind schedule. Starting on the outside of the front row, Cardenas banged the holeshot, momentarily giving up the lead in turn one to fellow Pirelli rider Larry Pegram, but taking it back again while still on the race’s first lap. Cardenas is recorded as leading three of the race’s ten laps, with Pegram leading one on his Leo Vince/Foremost Insurance Ducati 848. Cardenas led a Pirelli sweep in FX of four positions: third through sixth. In the tight pack with the race winner was also the Attack Kawasaki teammates of Chaz Davies and Steve Rapp on their ZX-6Rs in fourth and fifth, followed by Pegram in sixth. The eventual winner was Josh Hayes. Also finishing in the top ten in FX was Nicky Moore, riding for the Moto Uno team and taking tenth. In Supersport qualifying for Sunday’s race Steve Rapp was, as usual, at the front, qualifying his Attack Kawasaki on Row One with the third best time of the day. In the middle of Row Two sits Blake Young and Martin Cardenas, teammates at M4 EMGO Suzuki, with the sixth and seventh best times in qualifying. Their other teammate, Cory West, qualified just out of the top ten with the 11th best time, hoping to be another Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa contender in Sunday’s Supersport final. Superstock qualifying had Blake Young earning a spot on the front row for M4 EMGO Suzuki, by setting the fourth-fastest time of the day. Starting from the outside of Row Two will be Scott Jensen, with Robertino Pietri putting his Roadracingworld.com Suzuki on the grid in the third row with the ninth best time, gridded next to Ryan Elleby with the tenth quickest lap of any rider in the class. More, from a press release issued by American Suzuki: M4 EMGO’s Suzuki’s Cardenas Podiums in AMA Formula Xtreme Race at Mid-Ohio Round 7 AMA Formula Xtreme Series Lexington, Ohio Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course August 1 – 3, 2008 Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas celebrated his second AMA Formula Xtreme podium of the season by finishing in third place at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Saturday afternoon. Cardenas qualified on the front row of the FX grid and rode an aggressive race on his M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 before the 16-lap race was shortened to 10 laps due to a red flag. Cardenas missed several rounds this season after he was injured in a crash at the beginning of the year, and the Colombian rider is currently in eighth place overall. Martin Cardenas: “Today was a very good race for me. I had a very good start on the M4 EMGO Suzuki GSX-R600 and I was in first. I led several laps and then a few guys got past me and we were passing each other”¦ I tried to stay with the guys at the front and then there was the red flag and I was in third. Overall, I am happy with this result.” AMA Formula Xtreme Top 10 Finishers: 1. Josh Hayes, Honda 2. Jake Zemke, Honda 3. Martin Cardenas, Team M4 EMGO Suzuki 4. Chaz Davies, Kawasaki 5. Michael Beck, Yamaha More, from a press release issued by Team M4 EMGO Suzuki: MARTIN CARDENAS RETURNS TO THE FORMULA XTREME PODIUM Team M4 EMGO Suzuki enjoyed an outstanding day at Mid-Ohio on Saturday, collecting a podium finish and a front-row starting position. Martin Cardenas got a terrific start from his slot on the front row of the Formula Xtreme grid and powered into the lead aboard his Pirelli-shod GSX-R600. The Colombian held first place for three laps and ran with the lead pack throughout the contest. The race was red flagged and called complete on lap 10 of a scheduled 16 with Cardenas claiming third place, his second FX podium of the season and first since returning from serious injuries, including a broken femur, earlier this season. “Today was a very good race for me,” Cardenas said. “I got a great start. When the other guys came by we started passing each other and had a good race. I just rode as hard as I could and at the end when it was red-flagged I got third. I’m very happy.” Earlier in the day, Blake Young qualified fourth for Sunday’s 16-lap Superstock final aboard his GSX-R1000 with a fast lap of 1:25.947. Young, who won the most recent Superstock race at Road America, is hoping to quickly add a second victory trophy to his collection. Young commented, “We were just trying a bunch of different suspension changes all through practice and we got something pretty good for qualifying. I just went out there and started off on some race tires and tried to put in a pretty good pace and see how my tires would last and we were pleased with what we found. I came in and tried to put a little softer rubber on it and tried to go a little harder out there. I think we did pretty good — we went the fastest we’ve gone all weekend. But I think we’ve got a little bit more; we definitely learned a lot during qualifying and have a pretty good set-up for the race.” Young fell just 0.002 seconds from also picking up a front-row starting position in the Supersport class, qualifying fifth fastest at 1:27.384. Cardenas was just fractionally behind, qualifying sixth overall at 1:27.426. Cory West qualified 11th aboard his GSX-R600 at 1:28.106. On Sunday Team M4 EMGO Suzuki will look to return to the podium in the Superstock and Supersport races.
