NOTE: A login username and password will be necessary but registration is free and automated. Please email [email protected] or call 386-492-1014 if you have any questions or issues. “Q: What will happen to me if I don’t have an AMA Pro Racing, Dunlop or Sunoco patch on my rider leathers at an AMA Pro Road Racing event? “A: AMA Pro Racing will provide temporary stick-ons patches for you. If you participate in a race final without the required AMA Pro Racing, Dunlop or Sunoco logos, as is AMA Pro’s policy, you will be given a one event grace period to comply with this regulation. For clarity, please reference Rule 3.28.a.v in AMA Pro Road Racing Technical Bulletin #2012-04. “Q: What if I have an outdated version of the AMA Pro Racing logo? “A: AMA Pro Racing will provide you with sew-on versions of the current AMA Pro Racing logos for permanant application and temporary, stick-on versions for you to cover the outdated logos in the interim. “Q: What will happen to me if I don’t have one of the contingency partner logos listed in this document on my rider leathers? “A: AMA Pro Racing will provide stick-on versions for you at the events. There are no penalties associated if a rider chooses not to include contingency partner logos on their rider leathers; however, you may not be eligible for certain year-end contingency bonuses, as some partners have required logo placement on rider leathers and in some cases their motorcycles for eligibility in their year-end contingency award programs. AMA Pro Racing urges all riders to include applicable series partner contingency logos whenever possible.” Editorial Comment by David Swarts: This latest information makes it clear that the wearing/displaying of contingency program and points fund program partner logos is voluntary depending on whether or not the entrant wants to be included in the programs. This also makes it clear that the wearing/displaying of AMA Pro Racing, Dunlop and Sunoco patches and stickers remains mandatory and punishable according to Rule 3.28.a.v in AMA Pro Road Racing Technical Bulletin #2012-04, which reads, in part: “Applicable to these mandatory programs, riders will be given one warning to comply with this regulation. Failure to affix required exclusive partner logos by the next event could result in one or more of the following penalties: Ineligibility for event general purse, additional fine, gridding to the back of the field, loss of championship points, suspension.” The latest clarification, however, does not address the wearing/displaying of AMA Pro Racing logos outside of an AMA Pro Racing event, as noted in Rule 3.28.d.i in AMA Pro Road Racing Technical Bulletin #2012-04, which reads, in part: “AMA Pro Racing and the other logos and trademarks shown herein are licensed trademarks of AMA Pro Racing. Participants are to use the approved logos on number plates and apparel only when participating in AMA Pro Racing events. Any further use of the marks (i.e., the AMA Pro Racing mark, and other AMA Pro Racing trademarks and logos) outside of this capacity is not permitted without a license from, or the express, written permission of AMA Pro Racing.” The simple way to resolve that issue for AMA Pro competitors would be to grant a limited license to teams and competitors to display the trademarked AMA Pro Racing logo on leathers, uniforms and bikes for a given time period as a part of the credential purchasing process. Unless AMA Pro officials really are planning on using the trademark issue to even some scores…
