Speedwerks.com Suzuki (Brian Kcraget/Scott Ryan), Suz SV650, ST, 50.635 seconds More, from a press release issued by Grand American Road Racing: Aprilia Tops Tight Field During First Official Practice at Iowa Speedway NEWTON, Iowa (July 13, 2007) The first official practice session for Round 5 of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa concluded with the No. 6 Aprilia USA 2 team fastest overall and first in the Buell Motorsports Company SST class. Ty Howard set the fastest lap time of 48.329 seconds (96.836 mph) early in his short session on the machine, then let teammates Troy Green and Henry Wiles continue set-up for Saturday’s race. Close behind came the No. 69 RightsforBikers.com team of Mark Crozier and Nathan Dressman on their Suzuki SV1000 with a 49.113 (95.290 mph) lap time on the 1.3 mile circuit. The No. 32 Vallely Racing entry of Mike Himmelsbach and Chris Pyles slotted into third with a lap time of 49.525 (94.498) on their Suzuki SV1000. First in the BMW GST class and seventh overall with a time of 50.395 seconds (92.866 mph) was the No. 8 Richie Morris Racing Buell XB12 of Shawn Higbee and Dan Bilansky, with Shawn riding the Iowa Speedway course today for the first time. The No. 70 James Gang Racing Buell XB12 of Paul James and Jeff Johnson turned a lap time of 51.666 seconds (90.582 mph), with the No. 89 RightsforBikers Ducati PS1000LE of Chris Boy, John Linder and C.J. Czaia close behind with a 51.909 (90.158 mph). The ST class continued to be a dogfight with the top three teams bunched together on the timesheets. The No. 9 Pair-A-Nines Kawasaki EX650 turned a 50.468 (92.732 mph) to post the fastest ST class time and 9th overall with Jay Springsteen and Jimmy Filice at the controls. The No. 87 SpeedWerks.com Suzuki SV650 of Brian Kcraget and Scott Ryan were nipping at their heels throughout the session, turning in a best lap of 50.635 seconds (92.426 mph). Right behind them was the ST class No. 16 RightsforBikers.com entry of Justin Filice (Jimmy Filice’s son) and Robert Fisher with a lap time of 51.178 seconds (91.446 mph) on their Suzuki SV650. A 45-minute warm-up tomorrow morning at 9:50 a.m. precedes the start of the Iowa Speedway 500K scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. Following this event, the 2007 SunTrust MOTO-ST Series season will conclude with the 8 Hours At Daytona Finale, October 19-20 at Daytona International Speedway.
