Clinton Seller (Yam YZF-R6), 1:23.837** * fastest time disallowed for passing the Safety Bike/passing under a waving yellow ** all times disallowed for use of non-compliant fuel Editorial Note: The lap time Danny Eslick had disallowed was a 1:24.365, which would have placed him in the same position in the rankings as his official 1:24.464. This is the third time this season that Eslick has been penalized for passing riders under waving yellow flags or Safety Car/Safety Bike conditions. Update: Danny Eslick passed the Safety Bike, after it turned off its lights and before it pulled into the pits, at the end of the warm-up of AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Basic Qualifying. As for why Eslick did not receive a more severe penalty for this, his third such offense, AMA Pro Racing Director of Road Racing Bill Syfan told Roadracingworld.com, “I talked to [Safety Bike rider] Ed Sorbo and I listened to Eslick, and after hearing what everyone had to say I felt the punishment fit the crime.” As far as Clinton Seller’s fuel infringement and loss of his qualifying times during Daytona SportBike Basic Qualifying, Syfan said Seller’s Markbilt Yamaha used the same fuel tank and fuel tank foam that Melissa Paris used during the FIM Supersport World Championship race earlier this year at Miller Motorsports Park and remnants of another fuel in the tank and foam contaminated Seller’s AMA-spec fuel sample.
