Valdez, Sipp, Farrell Top Michelin PRO Qualifying – Tobolewski, Coccoli, Wenner in USGPRU Bloomingdale, GA Round One of the 2012 Michelin PRO Series sanctioned by ASRA got under way this weekend with beautiful weather for qualifying and temperatures in the low seventies on Saturday. Changes for this season will see qualifying include not only the ASRA Superstock, Sportbike and Thunderbike classes, but also USGPRU competitors in the 250GP, REV’IT! MD250H and Moto3 classes. Ricardo Valdez qualified his Yamaha R6 on the pole for ASRA Sportbike with a time of 1:14.883 followed by Mark Miller taking his Livengood prepared R6 to a 1:14.885 setting the stage for showdown between the two on Sunday. Scotty Ryan qualified third with a 1:15.343, blowing his engine in the process, and riding the crash truck with his bike back to tech to weigh in. Mark Stiles and the crew would work over night to put one of their Daytona motors in the bike for the race on Sunday. Justin Holderman qualified fourth on a Kawasaki and Justin Neyra qualified fifth on a Yamaha. In Thunderbike qualifying Walt Sipp knocked down a 1:17.927 for the pole on a Buell 1125. Ray Hofman followed Sipp’s Buell on a Ducati 749 with a time of 1:18.303. Russell Masecar used a Suzuki SV650 to lock third with a time of 1:20.485. Bob Robbins qualified a Ducati fourth and Darrin Klemins qualified a Kawasaki fifth. The USGPRU 250GP pole went to Steve Wenner with a 1:18.467. Christian Meekma was second with a 1:21.140. Adrian Jasso turned a 1:21.610 for third in class. Wenner rode a Honda. Meekma and Jasso both rode Yamahas. In qualifying for the REV’IT! MD250H class Casey Tobolewski took the pole turning a 1:21.093 and Alex Wisdom returned a 1:23.358. USGPRU Moto3 qualifying saw Scott Coccoli just nudge out Tobolewski turning a 1:20.511 on a Honda 125 to Tobolewski’s Moriwaki 250 time of 1:20.759 to gain pole. Palmer Kling was third aboard a MD250H with a 1:20.843. Stewart Aitken-Cade was right on Kling’s heels with a Honda 125 at 1:20.955 and Steve Wenner brought up fifth at 1:21.347 on his Honda 125. Finally, in the Superstock qualifier Jason Farrell took his Kawasaki ZX10R to a blistering 1:12.672 pole-winning run ahead of Eric Helmbach with a BMW-powered 1:14.205. Tim Bemisderfer’s 1:14.278 was logged on his GSXR 1000. A 1:14.567 was turned by Paul Decouto’s on a Suzuki and Scott Carpenter also on a Suzuki finished with a 1:14.888 for the fifth spot on the grid.
