Brand X won Friday’s National Endurance Series 6-Hour during the WERA Cycle Jam weekend at Road Atlanta, riders Ben Walters and Brett Champagne winning with a one-lap margin of victory on a Suzuki GSX-R1000.
Defending National Endurance Champions Vesrah Suzuki lost four laps due to a rear shock failure, and riders Tray Batey, Lee Acree and John Jacobi made up three of those laps, Batey turning the fastest lap of the race in the process on the team’s Suzuki GSX-R1000.
Suzuki Rider Development’s Martin Cardenas, Chad Lewin and Morgan Broadhead finished third overall on a Suzuki GSX-R600, on the same lap as Vesrah Suzuki.
It appeared in early laps that TVR/Team Moe’s would be an overall contender with race starter Josh Day attempting to break away with Team Vesrah Suzuki’s Batey. Although Batey shook free within a few laps, Day put down several fast laps to break free from the rest of the pack. Trouble struck as Day started feeling extremely ill, lost concentration and ran off the track, crashing. He later cited a bad reaction to an anti-inflammatory.
The race was plagued by five red flags, with racing action finally coming to a halt for good with 20 minutes left on the clock due to a burning motorcycle in the Turn One area.
