AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike points co-leader, Martin Cardenas, crashed his Team M4 Suzuki GSX-R600 on the second flying lap of the first practice session Friday at VIRginia International Raceway, injuring his right hand. Cardenas had the hand X-rayed at the track’s medical center. He broke the outside metacarpal of his right hand, but says he will try to ride in the Basic Qualifying session later today. Update: “It was my mistake,” Cardenas told Roadracingworld.com. “I hit the inside curb going downhill a little bit with the front tire and I lowside [in the Roller Coaster section of the track]. I don’t know. I tumbled, and I hit the ground or curb or something with my hand.” “It’s broken,” Cardenas added, as blood oozed from the hole the fractured bone poked in the top of his right hand, “but I’m going to try something to see if I can ride this afternoon and see how it goes.” AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Presented by AMSOIL VIRginia International Raceway Alton, Virginia August 14, 2009 Provisional Practice Times (all on Dunlop tires): 1.
