Kenny NOYES (Kaw ZX-10R), -18 laps, DNF More, from a press release issued by Palmeto Kawasaki: Oil on Track Spoils Noyes’ Kawasaki Debut A heavy morning rain left the track soaked but it was a mix of rain and oil from an incident in the previous warm up session that brought Kenny down at the fast turn six left-hander when he was running third in the tight lead group. Kenny had been quick all weekend and seemed poised to fight for the win after having been fast in all practice and qualifying sessions in both wet and dry conditions. The spectacular crash took place on the entry to the fastest corner at the 3.5-kilometer circuit and the Barcelona-based American was very nearly hit by the while getting up from the fall. A rider in the second group crashed and Kenny had to leap out of the way of the bike. Kenny was uninjured but his Palmeto Kawasaki ZX10-R was too badly damaged to allow him to rejoin the race. In all only 21 of the 28 riders entered made the qualifying cut-off limit to be allowed to start and of those 21 there were many crashes on the treacherous surface. Only ten riders finished and only five were on the lead lap. In spite of the misfortune on Sunday, the weekend was a confirmation of strong pre-season testing that has seen Kenny, in his first season with Kawasaki and Michelin, consistently at the top of the timing sheets, often fastest and always on the pace. Although the team leaves with no points, the information added to the data base at Albacete will serve to improve the bike for the next round at Jerez de la Frontera (June 6-7) where Kenny won the final race of the 2008 season. Kenny Noyes DNF (crash) “I had a problem at the start when the front came up. That cost me several positions but I was able to take back those places going up the inside on the brakes into turn one and moved into third. After that I was very comfortable following Silva and Del Amor and we were pulling well clear of the rest of the pack. The problem came on turn six on the second lap. My line took me through a place where oil had been put down in the warm-up. I had no warning and the crash was very fast. As I was getting up in the gravel I saw a bike coming straight at me and I had to run to avoid it”¦pretty scary! Several riders went down there during the race and Carmelo Morales told me he had had a big warning there on lap one and changed his entry line after that. The important thing now is to continue to work as we have been. We showed that we are very competitive and I’m sure we’ll build on the solid results in qualifying here to get the results we are looking for in the next races. I want to thank the team for their excellent work over what was a very hard weekend.”
