The seven-race Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains series, developed by Miller Motorsports Park, organized by the Utah Sportbike Association (USBA) and sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), was created to encourage and develop fun and competitive road racing at the club and regional levels. DRAMATIC WEEKEND WITH EPIC USGPRU BATTLE

Signorelli Now Leads Three Championships

The Racing for a Wish Team just wrapped up a successful weekend at the USGPRU and Masters of the Mountains Round #3 at Miller Motorsports Park. Both series held their third round on the East Course over the Father’s Day Weekend. With successful results, Signorelli now leads the Open Superstock, Open Superbike, and King of the Mountains GTO championship standings with the BMW Motorcycles of Utah S1000RR. He also moved up to third in the USGPRU Moto3 Under 30 national standings on the Bob Fier Racing Moriwaki MD250H powered by Honda after a fantastic battle with Andre Ochs and Lex Hartl.

The weekend started with the Moto3 class in the USGPRU series. Gerry qualified on pole and looked to set the pace. After following Lex Hartl around for a lap, he decided to take the lead and hoped to keep it. Hartl and Andre Ochs both had the same idea though and the three battled to the end. Signorelli made a pass for the lead in the second to last corner on the last lap. Andre lined up to draft and beat Sigs to the line by .002 of a second. Signorelli went well in the GP125 class as well, finishing third, but had to deal with some difficulties down shifting and a small oil leak that misted the rear tire and made traction hard to find. The action was equally dramatic in the Masters of the Mountains races. Gerry won the Open Superstock and Open Superbike races, but struggled in the King of the Mountain GTO race when his foot peg came off half way through the race while sitting in second place. Determined to earn points for the championship, he pushed to the end with his leg hanging off to finish 5th. This was enough to push him into the championship lead for all MoM classes.

It’s a pleasure coming to Miller to race and having a dealer with the quality of Pirelli, Motul, and Intermountain Race Fuels and great knowledge to go with it. Also, thanks Lex and Andre! I had a blast battling you two in Moto3!”

Dave Lewis Finishes at Miller with Two Wins and a fractured ankle

The weekend was off to a bad start, after being hit by another rider on the first lap of practice, Dave suddenly had a fuel problem with his Bud Light Lime Yamaha R6. We struggled to trace the problem as the practice sessions slipped away. After replacing the entire tank, we were in business. Since we missed all the Friday and Saturday practice sessions, Dave used KOM-O qualifying to dial everything in, taking 4th place on the grid with the 1000’s, on his Yamaha R6.

Sunday started much better; Dave qualified for pole in KOM-U and went on to take the win with an impressive 135.4 on MMP’s east course. Middleweight Superbike was another great race for Dave; he finished the race 18 seconds ahead of second place. “Every time I grid up, I give it 100% “said Dave, “and my Dunlop shod Lee’s Cycle built Yamaha R6 takes me to 110%, and that’s what I needed this weekend to keep Jesse Sherstan behind me “

KOM-O was the last race of the day. After a very bad start, Dave was making his way up through the pack on his 600. In lap two coming out of turn one, he grabbed a little too much throttle and what started out as bad tank slap, turned into one of the most violent highside’s I think I have ever seen. Dave flew 15-20 feet in the air coming down on his head and flipping on the track, bikes were going left and right to avoid hitting him. Dave was very lucky in the fact that his only injuries were a fractured ankle (talus), mild concussion, and a sprained neck and back. “I am looking forward to getting back on the bike for round four July 24th and 25th,” said Dave.
