Earlier this week he lost his two dogs and many of his belongings in a motorhome fire. Today Jason DiSalvo put his personal loss behind him and claimed provisional pole position during Daytona SportBike Basic Qualifying at VIRginia International Raceway. Taylor Knapp led most of the session with a time of 1:28.052 on his Latus Motors Buell 1125R, but Knapp was sidelined by a crash and DiSalvo put in a lap of 1:27.551 on his Team M4 Suzuki GSX-R600 late in the session to claim the top spot. Update: Mechanical problems with his Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies RSV1000R resulted in Chaz Davies being placed in the slower Group B of Daytona SportBike Basic Qualifying, but Davies made the most of the bad situation and turned a 1:28.943, which was fast enough for him to make it into the top 10 and Superpole. It was the first time this season that any rider went fast enough in Group B to make it into Superpole.
