Dustin Dominguez had a banner day at round two of the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s championship series at Eagle’s Canyon Raceway near Decatur, Texas, claiming seven wins in Expert sprint racing action on the 2.5-mile undulating course.
Riding his personal ZX-6R and a borrowed SV650, Dominguez claimed wins in the EXEL Transport Formula 2, LMSTrackdays.com B Superstock, South Central Race Center C Superstock, SASuperbike.com B Superbike, Island Racing Services C Superbike, and D Superstock Expert races. The Oklahoman also added a second place finish in the D Superbike race behind Cameron Kirk.
Dominguez saw tough last-lap challenges from Danny Kelsey in the two 600 races, but in each case he was able to put his head down and beat Kelsey to the finish.
TY Howard also had a good showing, claiming the win in the prestigious Formula 1 race, in addition to the RaceworX A Superstock and AVTEQ A Superbike races on his KTM RC8-R.
Howard had a relatively easy time of it in the A Superstock race, leading from start to finish. However, Derek Wagnon made Howard work for his wins in the A Superbike race and Formula 1 races.
“I got off the line in about fifth or sixth in the A Superbike race, and Derek got the holeshot,” said Howard. “I finally caught and passed him in turn three but he had a pretty good pace which made it hard to pass.”
In the Formula 1 race, Howard hit neutral when he was going into turn one to start the second lap and ran off the track.
“I had to almost stop completely to get my wheels back on the track,” said Howard. “I got going just in front of the second wave. So it was catch-up for the rest of the race.”
Howard finally caught Wagnon on the next-to-last lap and made the pass once again in turn three to take over the lead and eventually the win.
Ted Phillips and Cameron Kirk were both two-time winners at Eagles Canyon, with Kirk adding a win in the Classic Unlimited race to his win in the aforementioned D Superbike Expert race. Meanwhile, Phillips took wins in the Unlimited Motard and Heavyweight Twins races.
John Orchard topped the Formula 40 Heavyweight race, while Rick Kirk edged Eric Falt to win the F40 Lightweight race.
In the newly formed Rookie Expert class, Blake Cochran beat out Baus Barker and Cameron Kirk to take the win.
The highly competitive GMAN Productions 125 GP race was won by James Camacho Jr., taking the victory by 0.145 seconds over Conner Blevins.
In the Novice divisions, Nemo Cockrell had the most success claiming four wins, while Jeremy Louder took three. Cockrell’s wins came in the Lone Star Track Days B Superstock, Moto Liberty C Superstock , Ridesmart C Superbike, and B Superbike races. Louder took wins in the Road & Track Suspension Formula 1, Road & Track Suspension A Superstock and A Superbike races.
Jordan Scott was a two-time winner, claim victory in the OnRoad OffRoad Cycles D Superstock race, and the Road & Track Suspension F2 race.
In other Novice races, Blake Loehr won the Road & Track Suspension D Superbike race, and Isachar Perez won the Road & Track Suspension Heavyweight Twins race.
In all, a grid-filling 469 entries competed in Sunday’s 19 sprint races, which took place under typical March weather for central Texas.
On Sunday, 34 Big Bike Endurance teams competed in round two of the CMRA Endurance series, with Ridesmart/RPM Cycle claiming their second win in a row. Ty Howard, Ricky Jordan, Bryan West rode a KTM RC8 to an amazing six-lap margin of victory at the end of six hours of racing.
Moto-Ace, consisting of Derek Wagnon, Jeremy Kidd, Joe Prussiano, and Dustin Dominguez, battled with the winners for the first two hours of the race, but eventually crashed out sometime during the third hour.
Village Idiots (John Orchard, Chris Headley, Chad Tieszen, Brandon Cleland) finished second overall and first in the C Superbike division, while third place overall and second in the A Superbike division went to CS Carey Racing (Chris Carey, Greg Anderson, Matt Hall, Brent Wood, Gabe McClendon).
