Melissa Paris (Yamaha YZF-6R), 1:58.826 107% of 1:51.652 = 1:59.469 More, from a press release issued by Parkalgar Honda: Laverty sets circuit best lap at Miller PARKALGAR HONDA’S Eugene Laverty claimed provisional pole position in commanding style for the seventh round of the World Supersport Championship at Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City in the USA – as the only rider to dip under 1m 52seconds and setting a new outright best Supersport lap time. Miguel Praia finished 14th and will be looking to improve his position in final practice and qualifying tomorrow before the race takes place at 1330 local time on Monday, 31st May, Memorial Day in the USA. Eugene: “It was good to get a 1m51s lap. First I got a 1m51.9s and then I managed a 1m51.6s lap and thought no-one would beat that today so stayed out and got a better understanding of the feeling of my Parkalgar Honda. I knew I could do a quick lap this morning but to set the quickest ever Supersport lap here was excellent this afternoon. Miller Motorsports Park suits the Honda and my riding style very well, especially the first part of the lap which is fast and flowing; I enjoy riding here. I think the others are now playing catch up. Kenan is a bit behind but he did the same last year and was a full second a lap faster in the race; saying that I think I have moved the goalposts and I am pushing the other riders hard.” Miguel: “I am disappointed not to be in the top 10 and I must understand why I have not been able to do this. I like this circuit and it suits my Parkalgar Honda so now I must work on my riding and make big improvements. I will speak with my team and see how they can help me, as well as looking at the data and finding where I can go faster.” Simon Buckmaster, Parkalgar Honda Team Manager: “It was a really good day for Eugene and a new best lap. There are a few things we can improve and we will be doing everything we can to put him in the best possible situation so he can win another race. Miguel simply didn’t get up to speed fast enough. He needs to improve himself and he already knows if he qualifies better his race results will improve. His crew will be doing all they can to help him but now it is time for him to dig deep.” More, from a press release issued by Hannspree Ten Kate Honda: Kenan Sofuoglu set the sixth fastest time in this afternoon’s opening qualifying session for round seven of the 2010 World Supersport championship at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA. Provisional pole position was taken by fellow-Honda mounted rider, Eugene Laverty, as Sofuoglu’s Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Michele Pirro, was ninth fastest. Neither Sofuoglu or Pirro was happy with this afternoon’s results, however, and both are determined to find solutions to the different problems that beset them today at the 4.907km Miller facility which lies half an hour to the west of Salt Lake City in Utah. Kenan Sofuoglu P6 It was a very bad qualifying session today and I am really not very happy. We tried many different things this morning but the main problem I had today was with the engine braking. There was way too much for some reason, which made corner entry very difficu lt. We will look at changing the clutch tomorrow to try to overcome this, but it is clear we have very much work to do. Michele Pirro P9 It was very difficult today and we were a long way from a good setting. I really hope we can find a solution tomorrow, especially to get over the problem I have with the rear sliding into the slower corners. It makes it difficult to get out of the last corner on to the very long straight. I didn’t really have a good feeling from the front either today so we’ll need to look at everything tonight. Ronald ten Kate team manager We are clearly not in a position that we want to be and we weren’t able to find a solution to any of the problems we experienced today. There is obviously a lot of room for improvement. Today felt a bit like a copy of this event last year, when we struggled at the beginning of the weekend but eventually turned it around. Hopefully, the turning point will be the second day this year, and not race day. More, from a press release issued by ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing: Very good opening day for team ParkinGO Triumph BE1 Racing as David Salom finished in provisional front row after posting the third fastest time, Jason Di Salvo and Chaz Davies set the seventh and eighth quickest times respectively to take second row and Matthieu Lagrive posted the eleventh fastest time to finish in third. All in all good results as the team has high hopes for seventh round of World Supersport. Jason DiSalvo, who was seventh today, will race on home ground and is expected to put in a good performance. The American seems on the right path, after posting the third fastest time in practice this morning and being among the quickest in the afternoon session as well. DAVID SALOM | Triumph Daytona 675 | 3rd in 1’52.310 : “It was pretty easy today. I was always alone on the track and did many fast laps, close to my personal best. That’s why I’m very confident for tomorrow, hopefully will qualify in the front row”. JASON DI SALVO | Triumph Daytona 675 | 7th in 1’52.607 : “Racing at home is always great so I started off determined to do well and was among the fastest. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish in the front two rows but I’ll give it my all nonetheless and try my best to score a good result”. CHAZ DAVIES | Triumph Daytona 675 | 8th in 1’52.646 : “I have some trouble maintaining the ideal line from mid-corner to exit. We’re however working on suspension in order to fix the problem. Tomorrow, we’ll try out some new solutions using the gathered data and hopefully will have a better feeling with the bike when exiting the corner”. MATTHIEU LAGRIVE | Triumph Daytona 675 | 11th in 1’53.329 : “I wasn’t at my best because of the flu and so I wasn’t as effective as I wanted to. However, these two sessions will be very useful for tomorrow, when the starting grid is determined, hopefully I’ll be in better physical condition for the race with help from the mobile clinic”.
