JAMES GANG/HOBAN BROTHERS BUELL THIRD AT DAYTONA MOTO-ST Richie Morris Racing Buell Second in GST Final Standings DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. The James Gang Racing/Hoban Brothers Buell XB12R sponsored by Buell of Appleton and Darkhorse Crankworks and ridden by Paul James, Jeff Johnson and Walt Sipp finished third in the Grand Sport Touring (GST) class in the 8 Hours At Daytona, the sixth and final round of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series for motorcycle endurance racing. Despite a minor mid-race crash, the team completed 216 laps of the Daytona International Speedway road course, and finished three laps behind the class-winning Touring Sport Ducati entry (Doug Polen/Peter Friedland/Frank Shockley), clinching third place overall in the final season GST points standings. “It was a great weekend for our team,” said Hoban Brother’s John Dahmer. “Our riders clicked off consistent lap times, our pit stops were solid, and our 2008 Buell Thunderstorm engine worked flawlessly. It was a total team effort.” The Richie Morris Racing/Daytona Harley-Davidson/Buell team was running third on the same lap as the GST leader when their chain derailed in the third hour of the event. The Richie Morris Racing team repaired the Buell XB12R and returned to the race, completing 205 laps to place eighth in GST. The result dropped the Richie Morris Racing team from first to second in GST season points, 188 to 183, to Touring Sport Ducati. James Gang Racing finished the season third in GST, with 181 points. In the first complete season of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series, Buell teams won four of six GST races and at least one Buell team placed on the podium at each event. At Daytona, the overall MOTO-ST win and first place in the Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins (SST) class went to Roadracingworld.com Suzuki 18 (Chris Ulrich/Gary Mason/Cory West) on a Suzuki SV1000S that completed 234 laps in 8:01.06.454. The SST class championship was clinched prior to Daytona by Aprilia USA 1 (Ty Howard/Ben Thompson/Henry Wiles). Eleventh overall and first in the ST (Sport Twins) class was the Speedwerks 87 Suzuki SV650 (Hawk Mazzotta/Scott Ryan/Brian Kcraget), which completed 218 laps. More, from a press release issued by GoBigRacing.com: GO BIG RACING’S 8 HOUR MOTO-ST RUN ENDS IN HEARTBREAK October 23, 2007 For Immediate Release (Daytona, FL) For seven hours and fifty-three minutes of the eight hours finale of the SunTrust Moto-ST Endurance Series, Go Big Racing could not have asked for a better run. Ross Millson (Hamilton, ON), Karl Daigle (Granby, PQ), and Paul Glenn (Keene, ON) overcame two pit stop penalties to drive their Summit Gearworks/Ready Fastener Suzuki powered SV650 to the front of the ST Class pack and were sitting in first place at historic Daytona International Speedway when disaster struck. With seven minutes remaining in the race, Go Big Racing saw their shot at winning their first SunTrust Moto-ST Endurance Series race fall short as the bike suffered what the team believed was an electrical related failure and was forced to retire with a third place finish. “At this point, we are not sure what went wrong with the bike” commented Millson moments after learning that they were out of the race “the most important thing is that Karl is fine and we were still able to finish on the podium for our hardworking crew and for our sponsors.” An early pit stop penalty saw the Go Big Racing Suzuki drop to as low as sixth in the ST Class, but some determined racing by all three team members allowed the team slowly work their way back to the front of the pack where they waged a lengthy battle with the #87 Speedworks entry. Buoyed by the support of Phil and Rose Kurucz (and family) of Summit Gearworks and Mike and Imma Rice of Infinet Designs, all of whom made the trip to Daytona to support the team, and the Ready Fastener and AVAcore Technologies – CoreControl teams back in Canada and Michigan respectively, Go Big Racing was able to eventually use great racing and pit stop strategy to carve out almost a full lap lead on the #87 entry before the technical issues arose. “It was great to be able to be here in Daytona to see Go Big Racing in action and to see how much heart they have as a team” said Summit Gearworks’ President, Phil Kurucz “We are extremely proud of these remarkable racers and crew!” The third place finish in Daytona allowed Go Big Racing to finish the inaugural season in second place in the ST Class championship point standings. “Overall we are very happy with the results this season” commented Glenn “We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their support, which allowed us to run in this new series and gain valuable experience that we can take forward. We also once again have to thank our crew for their tireless effort each week. We would not be able to run up front in an eight hour race without the hard work of Mark Millson, Scott Laidman, Blaine Groves and Angie and Mike Hallman.” Speed TV will broadcast of all 6 rounds of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Endurance Series with The 8-hour finale from Daytona airing January 8, 2008. Visit www.speedtv.com for complete broadcast details. Go Big Racing now heads into the offseason after a very successful year that saw Paul Glenn win the 2007 International Motorcycle Supershow Amateur 600 Canadian Championship and Ross Millson finish his rookie season in the Parts Canada Superbike Championship in 3rd in the HJC Rookie of the Year standing. Throughout the winter, you can catch up with Go Big Racing at the International Motorcycle Supershow and the Toronto Motorcycle Show where they will be displaying their bikes and signing autographs.
