In this morning’s first free practice session, both riders were among the fastest on track, making constant progress throughout the session. In the final phase, Davide recorded a very fast time (2m11.1) which left him in third position at the session’s end while Lorenzo went four tenths of a second quicker (2m10.7), to close the practice in second position overall. During the afternoon’s qualifying session, both Davide and Lorenzo continued to make progress. Conditions remained dry, despite some threatening clouds, and towards mid-session Giugliano recorded a 2m09.0, lowering by more than two seconds his best time of the morning and projecting himself to the second position on the timesheets. In the final minutes the young Italian unfortunately crashed but his previously recorded time was enough to position him second at the conclusion of the session. Baroni improved slightly in terms of time, recording a best of 2m105 to finish the qualifying session in sixth place. Davide Giugliano “This morning we worked well to set up the bike and made good progress I think. In the afternoon it was going better but it was just a pity that I made a small mistake which caused me to crash. Fortunately I am more or less ok, I took a blow to my lower back but nothing too serious thankfully. We’re working well for the race and will continue to prepare tomorrow. For now I can say that I am satisfied with our performance.” Lorenzo Baroni “In morning practice we were going really well but then in qualifying, once we had the soft tyre on, we had a small technical problem that prevented me from lapping as I’d hoped to or as I had in the morning. The important thing is that we made good improvement this morning and I hope we can continue to do so tomorrow. We’re confident.” TIMES (Qualifying): 1. Petrucci (Ducati) 2’08.7; 2. Giugliano (Ducati) 2’09.0; 3. Zanetti (BMW) 2’09.4; 4. Barrier 2’09.5 (BMW); 5. Canepa (Ducati) 2’10.1; 6. Baroni (Ducati) 2’10.5; 7. Antonelli (Honda) 2’10.7; 8. Mercado 2’11.0 (Kawasaki) More, from a press release issued by Team Pedercini: A dry track in Silverstone for the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup free practice andqualifying sessions today. Bussolotti (2’13″763) was tenth, Staring (2’14″042) was thirteenth and teammate Mercado (2’14″807) closed in seventeenth position. Staring also improved on his best lap time (2’11″879), reaching fourteenth position. Some difficulties learning the new track for Bussolotti (2’12″219) meant that the Italian rider concluded in fifteenth place. I’m still suffering from some chattering problems but mostly because I did not understand how to adapt my bike set-up to this track. I’m sure tomorrow I’ll be able to improve my pace and my lap time because I want to reach a good position on Sunday’s starting grid.” Brian Staring: “This morning I saw the track for the first time and my first impression is that I like it. Unfortunately I did not find the right feeling with my front wheel and this afternoon the situation did not improve. I have to find the right confidence with my bike’s front suspension. We definitely have to work on the suspension so we can move on tomorrow and I’ll try to push harder in order to improve my lap times and find a good race pace.” Leandro “Tati” Mercado: This afternoon I improved my lap time by more than three seconds and it was a fantastic result. I learned this new track quickly and my team worked very well on my bike suspension. I am happy with the progress we made on the first day. My bike worked very well this afternoon and I was able to find a fast pace. Tomorrow I want to better understand some sections of the circuit and further improve my lap times.”
